Department of Pathology - Course Outcomes
At the completion of this course, the students should be able to:
- Describe the basic pathological processes and concepts in terms of pathogenesis and morphological changes in tissues.
- Describe specimen collection, transport, and proper handling regarding histopathological, cytological investigations, as well as haematological and chemical pathology.
- Describe the aetiopathogenesis and pathological changes associated with disorders in the cardiorespiratory, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, genitourinary, endocrine, locomotion, and central nervous systems.
- Explain the association of morphological changes with basic clinical features.
- Explain the pathological basis of clinical features of diseases affecting the above systems.
- Explain the basis of the applications of basic laboratory investigations in the diagnosis and management of diseases in these systems.
- Explain the basis of blood grouping, compatibility testing, indications, and the principles of managing transfusion reactions.
- Interpret the results of haematological tests in the context of the overall clinical picture of the patient.
- Analyze the mechanisms of common disease processes involving blood cells (red cells, white cells, platelets) and the coagulation system.
