Department of Paediatrics

 

The main role of the Department of Paediatrics is teaching and assessing medical students in the field of Paediatrics.The aim of Department is to develop doctors with the capacity of contributing to, the promotion of health, provide patient-centred care that is compassionate, appropriate and effective for the prevention and management of health problems in children.  They should be able to demonstrate the ability to improve patient care based on scientific evidence, constant self-evaluation and reflective life-long learning. Department of Paediatrics is ready to help them to fulfil these targets.

 

The University Paediatric Unit will be housed in Teaching Hospital, Ratnapura, which is the only Teaching hospital in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. It will be constructed with a lot of advanced facilities including High Dependency Unit, Neonatal ICU, neurodevelopmental and rehabilitation unit and a Renal unit.Our research interests include Developmental Paediatrics, Paediatric Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases, Accidental injuries and child protection concerns.
