This waterfall, named after the sacred leaf of a ‘Bo’ tree, is believed to carry its own mysteries. From haunted stories to stories of hidden treasure, it certainly appears to be a thriller spot. But for a nature lover, this could be a majestic place to enjoy nature.

Dumpus Ella

Dumpus Ella is renowned as the widest waterfall in Ratnapura District, measuring approximately 6 meters in height and 36 meters in width. It flows along the Induru River, surrounded by the lush greenery of Induruwa Reserve. The broad cascade creates a calm, scenic environment—ideal for relaxation and nature appreciation. 

Location & Distance from Faculty

  • Area: Near Gilimale, along the Ratnapura–Siripagama (B265) road
  • Distance from Faculty of Medicine, Sabaragamuwa University: Around 20 km from Ratnapura town; approximately 1 hour by vehicle from the faculty location, depending on traffic and road conditions,

Accessibility

  • Travel along B265 from Ratnapura toward Balangoda.
  • Approximately 15–19 km from Ratnapura, turn off toward Gilimale village.
  • The waterfall is about 300 meters walking distance from a small bridge over Induru River.
  • The trail follows the riverbank upstream; it's a natural stone path with some uneven terrain. Bathing pools near the falls are accessible via this walking path. 

Facilities & Transport

  • Parking: Limited roadside parking near the trailhead.
  • Restrooms & Shops: Not available at the site. Bring water and snacks.
  • Mobile Signal: Weak or intermittent along the trail.
  • Transport: Private vehicle or tuk‑tuk from Ratnapura. Buses on the B265 may drop passengers near trail start.
