This village is located towards the hillside, demarcating the dry and wet regions of the country. It is the home for many natural waterfalls. Galagama Ella, Bambarakanda Ella and Brampton Falls are only a few of them. It is also the host of the mother University of the Faculty, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. While experiencing the picturesque sceneries one could also experience the climate transition as you move from Ratnapura to Belihul Oya.
Pahanthudawa
Pahanthudawa Waterfall (also known as Galagama Ella) is a lesser-known yet scenic natural attraction located in the Belihuloya area of the Ratnapura District. The name comes from the Sinhala word “pahana”, meaning oil lamp, because the deep rock pool beneath the waterfall resembles the flame or wick of a traditional lamp.
Though it is only around 5 meters in height, its charm lies in the peaceful forest setting, the crystal-clear water, and the sound of flowing streams that soothe the mind. This waterfall is a hidden gem ideal for relaxation, nature photography, and short hikes.
