Department of Microbiology - Course Outcomes
At the completion of this course, the students should be able to:
- Identify bacteria, viruses and fungi which frequently cause disease in humans;
- Describe the clinical features and the pathogenesis of infectious diseases;
- Explain measures to prevent and control such infections including infection control practices and vaccines;
- Select relevant microbiological tests, advise on collection and transport of specimens to diagnose infectious diseases and interpret laboratory reports;
- Select antimicrobial agents effective for treatment and prophylaxis of infections,
- justify the appropriate use of antibiotics in the healthcare setting;
- Describe the immunological mechanisms that come into play when a human host is exposed to antigens;
- Select appropriate immunological tests for diagnosis of immune mediated disorders and interpret their results.
