Cooperative Research Between SUSL and WUT

Based on the MoU between Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and Wuhan University of Technology signed in 2013, the two universities have initiated a research collaboration to conducted extensive and substantial research cooperation and joint training of talents in the field of biomedical materials and engineering.    

Biomedical materials have become an important branch of contemporary materials science, especially with the rapid development of biotechnology and breakthroughs, biomedical materials have become the focus of research and development of scientists around the world. ThereforeThrough this bilateral cooperation, the development and application of medical products and technologies can be promoted in both countries.   

The research cooperation is a joint research collaboration between Prof Yingchao Han of School of Material Science and Engineering Department of Biomedical Engineering, Wuhan University of Technology and Prof. M. Nirmali Wickramaratne Dean Faculty of Medicine at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka as the Chief researchers and Ms. Harshani Perera (Head Department of Sport Science and Physical Education)  and several other researchers from the Wuhan University of Technology as members of the research team. Therefore this program functions as a collaboration between Wuhan University of Technology, China,  Faculty of Medicine SUSL, and Faculty of Applied Sciences, SUSL The research focuses on developing biodegradable organic-inorganic nanocomposite biomedical membrane, which is mainly used for the repair of tissue defects.  Through cooperative research, we have co-published 9 academic papers and jointly trained 7 talents.
