The Ceremony of Laying of Foundation Stone for the Construction of Paraclinical & Administrative Blocks
The Foundation Stone for the construction of paraclinical and administrative blocks of the Faculty of Medicine, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, was ritualistically laid by Honorable Minister of Education Prof. G. L. Pieris with the distinguish participation of Honorable Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi and Honorable Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa on the invitation of Prof. W. K. Athula C. Gnanapala the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka on 24th of October 2020 at Galkaduwatta, Newtown, Ratnapura. This memorable event was also graced by the Chairman, University Grants Commission Prof. Sampath Amarathunga, The Dean of Faculty of Medicine Prof. Nirmali Wickramasinghe, and other distinguished guests along with the academic and non-academic staff members and the medical students of the Faculty.
It was a significant first step in establishing a fully-fledged medical faculty and this new building will consist of 03 lecture halls, 40 lecturer rooms, 12 tutorial rooms, 09 state-of-the-art laboratories, and functional clinical areas for OPD and patient examination. The government has invested more than one billion rupees for this paraclinical and administrative blocks. Once completed, the new building of the Faculty would provide a host of new higher learning opportunities for students in the Country and further strengthen the University’s position as a centre of excellence for research and development.
