Department History

The Department of Tourism Management (DTM) has reached the current status going through several milestones in relation to the birth and evolution of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka (SUSL). At the inception of the faculty, a three years degree program in Tourism Management has offered after the completion of foundation year and two specialized years. The first course coordinator is Mr. W. K. A. C. Gnanapala. The degree program has initially offered under the Department of Management Studies. A separate department for Tourism Management has established in 2006 under the department head of Mr. Iraj Ratnayake. Since then, the department has headed by Mr. M. S. M. Aslam, Mr. W. K. A. C. Gnanapala, Mr. Rangana Shalika time to time and currently leading under Dr. Sarath Munasinghe. A new special degree program, B.Sc. EcoBusiness Management has append to the department in the academic year of 2005/2006. Further, B.Sc. Hospitality Management (Special) degree program has added to the department in the academic year of 2011/2012. Currently, the department is offering three honours degree programs in the fields of Tourism Management, Hospitality Management and EcoBusiness Management.
