The shrine of Ridi Vihare has its beginnings in a series of cave dwellings on the rocky hillside. In the early days of Buddhism these were once inhabited by meditating monks. Numerous Brahmi inscriptions record the donation of caves for the use of the Sangha and at one time there were thought to be nearly 500 priests residing in the caves on the hillside.

Ridee Vihara premises has been seen few pagodas. "Mahaviharaya" there main one. Behind the mahaviharaya there is a "Udaviharaya" and infront of it there is a "Varaka Waladu Viharaya". Those are the main viharas in Ridi Viharaya premises.
There is a fully-fledged retiring complex, located in a silent quiet environment maintained by the Ridi Viharaya. These rest room with all facilities are provided free of charge to pilgrim. You can stay in this place and you can easily reach in many places including Sigiriya, Dalada Maligawa, Rangiri Dambulu Vihara and Pahanagala.
