It is with great pride and pleasure that we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Professor B.T.G.S. Kumara on assuming duties as the Dean of the Faculty of Computing (FoC) at the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka (SUSL).
Professor Kumara’s academic journey stands as a testament to excellence and dedication. He holds a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Aizu, Japan (2015), an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Peradeniya (2010), and a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and Technology from SUSL (2006).
Beyond his academic accomplishments, he has made significant contributions to the professional community as a member of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science and the Association for Computing Machinery. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Lanka Education and Research Network, representing SUSL since July 2024.
Professor Kumara has held numerous key leadership roles within the university. He currently serves as the Head of the Department of Software Engineering (from April 2025) and the Director of the Centre for Computer Studies (since March 2024). His previous roles include serving as the Director of the Centre for Research and Knowledge Dissemination (2023–2025) and the Head of the Department of Computing and Information Systems (2017–2020).
In addition, he has contributed extensively as Chairman of several Boards of Study, including Computing in the Faculty of Graduate Studies (since April 2020), the Faculty of Computing at the Centre for Open and Distance Learning (since December 2022), and previously the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the same centre (2020–2022).
As he assumes duties as the Dean of the Faculty of Computing, we are confident that his visionary leadership, academic excellence, and commitment to innovation will further strengthen the Faculty and lead it towards new heights of achievement.
We wish Professor Kumara every success in this prestigious role and look forward to the continued growth and excellence of the Faculty of Computing under his leadership.
