Department of Computing and Information Systems

With the development and expansion to a Faculty - the Faculty of Computing (FoC) in 2022, the Department of Computing and Information Systems (DCIS) which was previously attached to the Faculty of Applied Sciences, was moved to the FoC as one of its three Departments.    The DCIS at the Faculty of Applied Sciences was established in 2011, while the BScHons Degree Programme in Computing and Information Systems was initiated back in 2008. Enabling to produce competent graduates demanded by today's IT/ BPM industry, the curriculum of the BSc Honours Degree Programme in Computing and Information Systems is revised to comply with Sri Lanka Quality Framework (SLQF) Level 6 and the curriculum guidelines provided by Association for Computing Machinery/ Association for Information Systems/ Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (ACM/ AIS/ IEEE). Today, the Department continues its decade-long journey with generations of students continually improving every step forward, with its highly qualified and competent academic staff passionate about disseminating knowledge, promoting learning, research, and training, with the holistic goal of building educated and cultured individuals.

The students are given continuous professional exposure throughout their academic tenure in the form of module assignments, practical training, and final-year research. The students learn how to apply the principles of information systems to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of software systems.

The Department also encourages students to learn not only through lectures and tutorials but also through research, seminars, conferences, and industrial training to keep them well-updated with the most recent developments in information systems. After successfully completing the programme, students can get placement in reputed organizations or join academia. The Degree Programmes also pave an excellent pathway for postgraduate studies.
