Message of the Dean
The Faculty of Computing (FoC) is officially inaugurated on the 2nd of January 2023 as the 9th Faculty of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.
As I assume duties as the Coordinator of FoC, I wish to dedicate myself to its vision, prosper lives through education and its mission, and develop globally competent citizens through our education for a sustainable future, drawing inspiration from our cultural heritage and wisdom.
The prime devotion and dedication of the Faculty of Computing is to always make a significant contribution to the knowledge sector by producing the competent workforce necessary and building a Technology-Based Society (Smart Nation) to uplift the standard of technology across the country and to make Sri Lanka the next technology hub.
The need for higher education to respond is urgent as the power of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies for either positive social impacts or devastating environmental damage is upon us, as is the potential for irreversible loss of control over networks of powerful AI agents with increasing autonomy within financial sectors and within the urban infrastructure.
Within scientific and technical education, the Faculty is willing to educate and reeducate students to help develop and shape the use of today’s most rapidly emerging technologies. All students should be exposed to the latest 4IR-based technologies at a young age, as they will be developing or using such systems in their daily activities in the future.
A university education is not just education and academia, it is training toward leading a successful life. A person cannot lead a full life if he is not well-versed in the culture, experienced in the art, and endowed with management and team working skills.
In my experience, a versatile graduate is one that has experienced University life to its full potential, not just in academia, even though it is a major part of education.
Being the Founder Dean of the Faculty of Computing is a divine glory bestowed to only a few, and it is my privilege to take up the mantle of leading this esteemed faculty toward development and glory.
