Opening Ceremony of the Orientation Programme for the 2024/2025 Student Intake Successfully Held

The Faculty of Computing, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, successfully inaugurated the Orientation Programme for the 2024/2025 student intake on 13th July 2026 as an online event, marking the beginning of the students' academic journey.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Professor B. T. G. S. Kumara, Dean of the Faculty of Computing, followed by the keynote speech delivered by Professor S. A. Ariadurai, Acting Vice Chancellor. They encouraged students to pursue academic excellence, actively engage in university life, and make the most of the opportunities available.

The new students were also welcomed by Dr U. A. P. Ishanka, Acting Head of the Department of Data Science; Dr L. S. Lekamge, speaking on behalf of the Head of the Department of Computing and Information Systems; and Mr H. M. K. T. Gunawardhana, Head of the Department of Software Engineering. They introduced their academic programmes and inspired students to embrace learning and innovation.

Professor Hasintha Wijesekara, Senior Student Counsellor, conducted a session on adapting to university life, offering practical guidance on maintaining academic, social, and personal well-being.

The programme also featured motivational talks by distinguished alumni Mr Suresh Wenuka Godakanda and Mr Isuru Abeywardane, who shared their university experiences and career journeys while encouraging students to make the most of their undergraduate years.

The ceremony concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms K. T. Dananjali, Chairperson of the Orientation Committee. The Faculty of Computing warmly welcomes the 2024/2025 student intake and wishes them every success in their academic journey.
