Introduction to Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Management

The program structure includes a total of 124 credits and the program contains compulsory courses and elective courses that enable the students to have more preferential opportunities to choose courses as per their interests and career aspirations. The courses are offered throughout the four years including core disciplines such as Management, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Accounting, Economics, Decision Making, Entrepreneurship, English, Law, and Personal and Professional Development. Elective courses are included from the third year onwards. Apart from maintaining high standards in the management scholarship, the degree programme has seven salient features. First, the degree program opens up two avenues for undergraduates such as the general business management stream that focuses on developing graduates who will pursue careers in the field of management and the entrepreneurship stream that aims to produce entrepreneurs who will be the backbone of Sri Lanka’s economy. Second, taking the advantage of online learning capability, we introduce online learning cum Internship in the first semester of the second academic year. Third, considering the stakeholder emphasis on increasing industry exposure and getting leverage from online learning, the industrial exposure to the undergraduates has been increased to a one-year internship in comparison to the six months internship in the previous curriculum. Fourth, English is the medium of instruction of the degree programme, and Business English and Business Communication courses have been included as compulsory credited courses throughout the first three years. Fifth, special attention has been given to develop the digital proficiency of the undergraduates to enable them to be digitally smart by incorporating and strengthening the ICT courses. Sixth, a considerable emphasis has been given to develop the socio-emotional skills of the undergraduates through problem-based practical experiential learning opportunities. Seventh, a higher concern has been given to develop the knowledge production capability of the graduate by offering a comprehensive theoretical and practical research methodology course with an emphasis on sound quantitative and qualitative analysis courses and the compulsory thesis writing component.
