Professor S. Vasanthapriyan Assumes Duties as the Founding Dean of the Faculty of Computing, SUSL

 

It is our great pleasure to congratulate Professor S. Vasanthapriyan as he inaugurates the Deanship of the Faculty of Computing (FoC), Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka (SUSL). On 3rd May 2023 he was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Computing by the Vice Chancellor of Sabaragamuwa University in Sri Lanka, Senior Professor R.M.U.S.K. Rathnayaka. We wish him all the best to spearhead the administration and academic activities of the Faculty of Computing, which was established in December 2022.

Since he joined SUSL as a lecturer in September 2005, Professor Vasanthapriyan has made numerous contributions to the University for nearly eighteen years. He was appointed as the first Head of the Department of Computing and Information Systems at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, SUSL in 2011 and served until September 2014. From May 2020 to October 2022, he once again served as the Head of the Department of Computing and Information Systems. Since October 2019 he has been serving as a Professor in Computer Science.

He represents SUSL as an Executive Member of the Standing Committee for Computing at the University Grant Commission. We are proud to say that he has held numerous positions in national and international task forces and committees, the Chairman/President of the IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter for the Year 2022 and the President of Section E3-Computer Science of Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) in 2023, to name a few.

Demonstrating his outstanding leadership, he served as the Coordinator of the Faculty of Computing which led to the establishment of FoC as the 9th Faculty of SUSL in December 2022. From 02nd of January 2023 to 02nd of May 2023, he served as the Head of the Department of Data Science and the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Computing.

Under the leadership and guidance of Professor S. Vasanthapriyan and with him being a continuous source of inspiration, we are certain that the Faculty will continue to make efforts to reach greater heights.
