
The SPIRIT ERASMUS+ project started the Life Long Learning training series under thedissemination and exploitation work package collaboratively with the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. A training program on ‘Sports Injury Prevention and Basic First Aid’was conducted on 29th of December 2022which offered an excellent opportunity to the athletes who participated in the inter-university games in Sri Lanka to improve their knowledge and raise awareness of the benefits of sports injury prevention and basic first aid. Mr.ChamilaSeneviratna, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy, General Sir John Kothalawala Defense University, and Mr.UdeeshJayawardana, registered physiotherapist facilitated the training program as resource persons. At the end of the on-hand training program, certificates were awarded to the participants and they highly appreciated this on-hand experience which is highly beneficial to sports personnel. The members of the SPIRIT ERASMUS+ project Ms. T.P. Liyanage, Ms. TSH Perera, Ms. WAWS Rupasinghe, and Mr. Rajamanthree actively engaged in organizing the event.
Olympic Value Education Program for University Sport and Physical Education Instractors-Collaboratively organized by SUSL and National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka
The National Olympic Committee is willing to collaborate with the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka in organizing an Olympic Value Education Program for University Sport and Physical Education Instructors. For this initial discussion Mr. Maxwel de Silva, the Director General of the National Olympic Committee; Mr. BLH Perera, a legend in the Olympic Education of Sri Lanka and Ms. ErangaFernado visited the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. The Sabaragamuwa University handed over a comprehensive proposal to the National Olympic Committee for the said program.
The National Olympic Committee promised to assist the SUSL with its ongoing Strategic Planning Project by giving volunteering opportunities for the Undergraduates and a one-day seminar for the University officials on Strategic Management Planning by a foreign expert.
In addition, the two institutions discussed the development of sports facilities in a rural school nearby the SUSL, and the initial proposal preparation is going on. The two institutions hope to do further collaborations with mutual understanding.
