Olympic Values Education Programme

The world is changing at an unprecedented speed which is having a far-reaching impact on the well-being of young people. The essence of our future will be the youth in the universities and thus it is necessary to cultivate the humanity values along with the subject knowledge. Olympism is a philosophy of life that uses sports for the development of humanity. This philosophy is expressed through actions that link sport to culture and education. Sports activities can help teens and young adults build a close community of peers and supportive adults and boost self-esteem and teamwork skills. Value Education through Sport (VETS) supports active learning, complements cognitive skills and gives students increasing amounts of responsibility, and enhances their level of concentration and participation.

As a pilot project Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) is planned to be conducted as a joint venture with the National Olympic Committee Sri Lanka (NOCSL) and the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka (SUSL) on 21 – 24 July 2023 at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. The target group for the program will be the physical education and sports instructors of Sri Lankan Universities who are closely engaged with a diverse set of components of physical literacy development. The trainees are expected to disseminate the gained knowledge in their respective universities and identify and uplift the qualities of the body, will and mind of the Undergraduates.
