Activity 2012

Career Guidance Unit of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully conducted a seminar to introduce career guidance services of the university for the undergraduates. The seminar was held on 16th May 2012 at the Main Auditorium of the university. The seminar was conducted by the Career Advisor of the university.

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully organized a seminar on "How to minimize your exam stress?" for the first year and second year undergraduates of the Faculty of Applied Sciences on 6th November 2012 from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies. The seminar was conducted by Mr. H. P. Rasika Priyankara, Director of CGU, and Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, Career Adviser of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

Activity 2013

Career Guidance Unit of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully conducted a seminar series to introduce the career guidance services of the university for the new undergraduates. The starting seminar was held on 25th July 2013 for the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at their Faculty Auditorium. The seminars of the Faculties of Social Sciences & Languages and Management Studies were held on 26th of July 2013 at the Auditorium of Faculty of Management Studies.

Beyond Belief – Towards a new Beginning with Change

The first workshop of ‘the Inspirational Speaker Program’ which was titled “Beyond Belief – Towards a new Beginning with Change” was successfully organized by the Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka on 23rd January 2013 from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies. The workshop has been designed to remove the negative personal brain scripts and double the capacity through developing internal mind power, values and motivation of the undergraduates. Most importantly, more than two hundred and fifty (250) students actively participated throughout the day and the workshop was conducted by Mr. Chandana Gunawardane who is a renowned Human Skill Development Trainer in Sri Lanka.

Activity based residential English camp

Activity Based Residential English Camp at the Faculty of Management Studies from 23rd to 25th August 2013 Organized by The Career Guidance Unit of SUSL in collaboration with Faculty of Management Studies.

Maximize your true potential

Career Guidance Unit successfully organized a workshop specially for 2nd and 3rd year undergraduates of the university. This is an activity based workshop held on 28th February 2013 from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies and that was designed to help individuals to create a more dynamic, loyal and energized personality and replicate it in their future world of work. The resource person was Mr.Sanath Gamage who is a renowned human skills development trainer in Sri Lanka.

Mind Maps

The Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka was successfully organized a workshop titled “Mind Maps” on 23rd October 2013 from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies. The workshop was based on memory, memory development, and exam success of the undergraduates. Mr. Chandana Gunawardane who is a renowned human skill development trainer in Sri Lanka, conducted the workshop.

Workshop Series of Entering Corporate Arena

Third year students of the Department of Business Management in Collaboration with Career Guidance Unit of SUSL organized “AURORA- Reality of Industrial Relations and Entering Corporate Arena” on 27th August 2013 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.oo p.m. at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies. The workshop was conducted by Mr. U. P. P.Gunarathne, Senior Manager Industrial Relations and Mr. Gehan Mendis, Manager Industrial Relations of Hatton National Bank (HNB) PLC.

Third year students of the Department of Business Management in Collaboration with Career Guidance Unit of SUSL organized "Silver Line of Business Horizon - Reality of Industrial Relations and Entering Corporate Arena" workshop on 29th August 2013 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.oo p.m. at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Upali De Silva, Managing Director of Samsons Trading (Pvt) Ltd.

Third year students of the Department of Business Management in Collaboration with Career Guidance Unit of SUSL organized "Foresee the Business World with 3rdEye - Reality of Industrial Relations and Entering Corporate Arena" on 18th September 2013 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.oo p.m. at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Dinesh Athapaththu, Human Resource Manager of Colmans Garments (Pvt) Ltd.

Third year students of the Department of Business Management in Collaboration with Career Guidance Unit of SUSL organized "The Way of Wisdom- Reality of Industrial Relations and Entering Corporate Arena" on 23rd September 2013 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.oo p.m. at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies. The workshop was conducted by Mr. B. A. N. U. Balasooriya, Human Resource Manager of Huawei Technologis Co Ltd.

Third year students of the Department of Business Management in Collaboration with Career Guidance Unit of SUSL organized "Sparkling Sapphires - Reality of Industrial Relations and Entering Corporate Arena" workshop on 26th September 2013 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.oo p.m. at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Bimal Rajakaruna, Senior Human Resource Development Manager of Sanasa Development Bank PLC.

Third year students of the Department of Business Management in Collaboration with Career Guidance Unit of SUSL organized "Golden Bridge for Reality - Reality of Industrial Relations and Entering Corporate Arena" workshop on 27th September 2013 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.oo p.m. at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Rohitha Amarapala, HR Director of Taj Samudra Hotel Colombo.

Activity 2014

"Career Guidance Seminar with the collaboration of National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA)

Career Guidance Unit of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully organized a Seminar with the collaboration of National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) in order to develop entrepreneur skills of the undergraduates. The pilot program held on 18.12.2014 at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University. The target group was 3rd year undergraduates of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

"Signing MOU with People's Bank"

Career Guidance Unit of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka strengthened the relationship between people’s Bank and Sabaragamuwa University by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 10.12.2014 at Sabaragamuwa University.

Career Guidance Workshop on "Investment in Colombo Stock Exchange"

Career Guidance Unit of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, successfully conducted a workshop on "Investment in Colombo Stock Exchange" with the participation undergraduates of Faculty of Management Studies on 26th November 2014 at the Auditorium of Faculty of Social Sciences. The resource person was Mr. Hemal Weerasinghe – Manager and the officers of Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) - Ratnapura.

There was a special discussion between officers of CSE and the Dean of Faculty of Management Studies including Head of Department of Accountancy & Finance to establish a capital market information centre with online trading facility at the Faculty of Management.

"Oba Asirimath"

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully organized a workshop, titled "Oba Asirimath" on 11th & 12th September 2014 at the faculty of Applied Science, with a collaborations of Department of Manpower & Employment of the Ministry of Productivity Promotion and Ratnapura District Secretariat Office. "Oba Asirimath" is a personality development program towards the successful career development of the undergraduates.

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully organized a seminar on "How to minimize your exam stress?" for the first year undergraduates of the Faculties of Applied Sciences and Management Studies on 10th June 2014 from 4.00 P.M. to 6.00 P.M. at the Main Auditorium of the University. The seminar was conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, Career Adviser of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

"Effective CV Writing & How to Face an Interview?"

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully organized a seminar, titled "Effective CV Writing & How to face an Interview?" on 18th June 2014 from 10.00 A.M. to 3.00 P.M. at the faculty of Geomatics, for the final year undergraduates of the Faculty of Geomatics. The workshop was based on the professional ways of writing a Curriculum Vitae and giving a practical experience of interview facing for the final year undergraduates before they enter to the world of work. The resource person was Mr. Amitha Kumara, Senior Manager (Organizational Development) at Loadstar (pvt) Ltd. Colombo.

Activity 2015

Certificate Awarding Ceremony of Entrepreneurship Development Programme

This Entrepreneurship Development Programme was conducted by the Career Guidance Unit of the University in the collaboration with National Entrepreneurship Development Authority (NEDA) Sri Lanka. The first progarmme was launched based on the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences as a pilot project. The certificates awarding of this programme was successfully held on 27th November 2015 at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

the same day the interviews were also conducted for the selection of the entrepreneurship grants, which are offered by NEDA, Sri Lanka, in order to hand the undergraduates to start their own businesses. The Interview was conducted based on the business proposals submitted by the undergraduates of Agricultural Sciences. The expected grant is Rs.150000.00 for each selected undergraduate.

CV Writing & Interview Facing Skills Development Programme

This progarmme was organized on 12th November 2015 from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm at the Faculty of Geomatics. The main objective of this programme was to develop the CV writing & Interview facing skills of the undergraduates of Faculty of Geomatics prior to their industrial placements. The programme was conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, Career Advisor of the University.

The "Final Step"- Soft Skills Development Programme

The "final step" soft skills development programme, presented by John Keells Foundation in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka was held on 14th, 15th & 16th July 2015 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. This soft skills development programme can be identified as a bridge, which fills-up the gap between employer expectations and job expectations of Sri Lankan University graduates. The major objective of this programme was to develop the undergraduates' soft skills level parallel to their University education. The inaugural session was held on 14th July 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages of the University. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chandana P Udawatte was the chief guest of this inauguration and the most significant feature was the enthusiastic participation of the students.

"Personality Development Programme"

Career Guidance Unit of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and Image Consultants successfully organized a "Personality Development Programme" at Global Towers, Colombo from 8.30am to 5.30pm on 8th July 2015. The programme was sponsored by CEAT Kelani Tyres and facilitated by Image Consultants.

The programme focused on Personal grooming and best hygiene practices, Appropriate dress code, Social, business & dinning etiquettes and How to face an interview successfully. Selected 37 undergraduates by representing Faculty of Management Studies, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Faculty of Geomatices were actively participated for the programme. Director of Image Consultants, Mrs. Nayana Karunaratne and General Manager of Image Consultants, Ms Irushi Aluwihare were conducted the sessions.

"ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME"

Career Guidance Unit of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka initiated an entrepreneurship development programme named "UPADIDHARI VIYAPARIKA UDANAYA - 2015" in collaboration with the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) on 4th & 5th July 2015.

The target group of this pilot programme was the final year undergraduates of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences who are interested to start their own businesses in their career endeavors. The programme was held successfully at the Auditorium of the faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

"Career Guidance for New Undergraduates"

Career Guidance Unit of the University successfully organized a programme on "Career Guidance for New Undergraduates" with a collaboration of Students Counseling Center on 21st 22nd and 23rd of April 2015 at the University. Mr. Ajith Jayewardane, Senior Lecturer of Sri Lanka Foundation took part as the resource person of the programme.

Activity 2016

"Entrepreneurship Development Programme"

After the initiative programme which was conducted by NEDA (National Entrepreneurship Development Authority) and the Career Guidance Unit of the University, the second programme was held successfully on 8th & 9th December at the Faculty of Management Studies. The purpose of the programme was giving a practical exposure to the students in order to develop their business proposals writing skills. The programme was conducted by the resource panel of the NEDA.

"Outward Bound Training Programme (OBT)"

The 2nd OBT programme of the year 2016, successfully held on 1st & 2nd December 2016 at the Academy of Adventure at Belihuloya. This programme was held under the programme series of “Life Skills Development towards the Career Development”, launched by Career Guidance Unit of the University in order to give a practical soft skills experience to the undergraduates of SUSL.

"Creativity and Creative Thinking Development Programme"

For the purpose of enhancing the ability of creative and analytical thinking of the undergraduates, Career Guidance Unit successfully launched a programme series of “Creativity and Creative Thinking Development”. The initiative programme was successfully held for the Faculty of Applied Sciences on 24th November 2016 at the Faculty auditorium. The programme was conducted by Dr. Ranmalee Bandara, senior lecturer of the Faculty of Geomatics.

"Outward Bound Training Programme (OBT)"

Career Guidance Unit of the University successfully conducted an outward bound training programme at the Academy of Adventure at Kumbalgama, Belihuloya on 21st & 22nd September 2016. The OBT was held under the programme series of "Life Skills Development towards the Career Development" launching by the Career Guidance Unit of the University. Fifty five selected undergraduates were participated by representing the Faculty of Management Studies and Faculty of Agricultural Sciences for the programme.

"Entrepreneurship Development Programme"

Career Guidance Unit of the University successfully launched an Entrepreneurship Development Programme, collaboration with the National Entrepreneurship Development Authority (NEDA) Sri Lanka. The starting programme of 2016 was held on 06 September at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies. The programme was conducted by Mr. Lakshman Wijeyewardena, the Director of NEDA. The purpose of the programme is to promote entrepreneurship development among the SUSL undergraduates. The programme has been named as “Upadhidari Viyawasayaka Udanaya”. The pilot programme of this at SUSL was held successfully at last year for the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University.

"Career Guidance Services of the University" Introduction Programme 2016

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka conducted a seminar series from 4th March to 6th April 2016 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, in order to introduce the career guidance services of the university for the new undergraduates. This programme was conducted parallelly to the orientation programme 2016, in collaboration with the Students Counseling Center of the University. Director, CGU Dr. P I Yapa and Career Advisor, Deepal Wijayasekara conducted the sessions.

Career Guidance for New Undergraduates

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the University successfully organized a guest lecture programme on "Career Guidance for New Undergraduates" with a collaboration of the Students Counseling Center of the University on 4th March 2016 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages. CGU Director of the University of Visual & Performing Arts, Mr. Ajith Jayewardane took part as the resource person of the programme.

Personality Development Programme

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of Sabaragamuwa University successfully organized a programme in order to develop the personality awareness of final year undergraduates of the Faculty of Geomatics. The objective of the programme was to convey the ways of personality development of the target group by paying special attention on their future career development. This "Personality Development Programme" was successfully conducted in collaboration with the Faculty of Geomatics on 1st March 2016 from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. at the Faculty of Geomatics. The resource person of the programme was Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, Career Advisor of the University.

Relaxation Programme

Career Guidance Unit of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully conducted a workshop for the undergraduates of the Faculty of Management Studies on ''Mental Relaxation''. The objective of the programme was to make aware the undergraduates regarding the mental relaxation towards a balance personality in their life. This session was entirely based on activities which allow them to sense the importance of mental relaxation. The workshop was held on 10th February 2016 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies of the University. The programme was conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, Career Advisor of the University.

Grants Awarding of the Entrepreneurship Development Programme

Under the "Entrepreneurship development programme", L P Usgodaarachchi (Faculty of Applied Sciences) and M K L S Amarasena (Faculty of Agricultural Sciences) received entrepreneurship grants (Rs. 150,000.00 per undergraduate) on 13th January 2016 at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. This programme held under the entrepreneurship development programme named "Upadhidari viyawasayakathwa udanaya" organized by the Career Guidance Unit of the University in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in order to develop entrepreneurship skills and abilities of the undergraduates of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

The Need of the Personal Vision and Mission for a successful University Life

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the University successfully conducted a lecture on "The Need of the Personal Vision and Mission for a successful University Life" with a collaboration of the Students Counseling Center of the University on 22nd February 2017 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages. The lecture was conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, the Career Advisor of the university. 

Mental Relaxation Programme

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the University successfully conducted a lecture and a practical secession on "Mental Relaxation" with a collaboration of the Students Counseling Center of the University on 03rd March 2017 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages. The programme was conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, the Career Advisor of the university. 

Personality Development Programme

Career Guidance Unit of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and Image Consultants successfully organized a "Personality Development Programme" at Renuka Hotel, Colombo from 8.30am to 5.30pm on 5th July 2017. Career Guidance Unit of the University successfully launched the third step of the Entrepreneurship Development Programme, in collaboration with the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) Sri Lanka. The programme was held on 18th September 2017 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies. The programme was conducted by Mr. Lakshman Wijeyewardena, the Director of NEDA. The purpose of the programme is to promote entrepreneurship development among the SUSL undergraduates. Foreign delegate, Dr. Uma Devi from the Center for Woman’s Studies, Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati, India was also participated as a resource person for the programme. The programme has been named as “Upadhidari Vayavasaya Udanaya”. 

"Oba Asirimath" Personality Development Programme 

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully organized a personality development programme, titled "Oba Asirimath" on 7th & 8th December 2017 at the faculty of Applied Science, with a collaboration of Department of Manpower & Employment of the Ministry of Productivity Promotion. "Oba Asirimath" is a personality development program towards the successful career development of the undergraduates.

"Outward Bound Training Programme (OBT)"

Career Guidance Unit of the University successfully conducted an outward bound training programme at the National Youth Corps at Naula, Mathale on 18th & 19th December 2017. The OBT was held under the programme series of "Life Skills Development towards the Career Development" launched by the Career Guidance Unit of the University. Sixty selected undergraduates were participated by representing the Faculty of Management Studies, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences & Languages and Faculty of Geomatics.

Development of soft-skill and employability of undergraduate

Career Guidance unit recognizing the gaps exist between skills of graduates of the university and real world of work, initiated a project to interact with cooperate sector of the country initially to understand the gaps of our graduate towards their needs. Findings will be assessed and incorporate into academic work of the undergraduate appropriately in years to come.  

The Need of the Personal Vision and Mission for a successful University Life

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the university successfully conducted a lecture on "The Need of the Personal Vision and Mission for a Successful University Life" on invitation of the Students Counseling Center of the university on 22nd February 2018 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages. The lecture was conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, the Career Advisor of the university. 

Entrepreneurship Development Programme 1 – 2018

Career Guidance Unit of the university successfully launched an Entrepreneurship Development Programme in collaboration with the National Entrepreneurship Development Authority (NEDA) of Sri Lanka.  The starting programme of 2018 was held on 06th March at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies.  This introductory programme was conducted by Mr. Lakshman Wijeyewardena, the Director of NEDA. The purpose of the programme is to promote entrepreneurship development among the SUSL undergraduates.  The programme has been named as “Upadhidari Viyawasayaka Udanaya”. Mr. Sameera Bandara, an entrepreneur generated by the university under the first NEDA programme was also shared his success at the event.  

Programme on "Beyond the Belief- Towards a new Beginning with a Change”

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka conducted training programme on 13th September 2018 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences & Languages, in order to develop the personal vision and, empowered undergraduates to develop a personal life plan with self-motivation. The programme was conducted by Mr. Chandana Gunawardana who is an expert on human skills development. Target group of the programme was the 1st year undergraduates of the university. 

Entrepreneurship Development Programme-2 – 2018  

Followed by the initiative programme which was conducted by NEDA (National Entrepreneurship Development Authority of Sri Lanka) in March, 2018, the second programme was held successfully on 13th & 14th September 2018 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Applied Sciences.  The purpose of the programme was giving a practical exposure to the students in order to develop their business proposals writing skills.  The programme was conducted by the resource panel of NEDA.

Bangladesh-Sri Lanka Youth Exchange Programme

Career Guidance Unit successfully organized an educational programme with collaboration of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Project Management and Southern Development on request of the Vice Chancellor of the university. The programme was held on 11th & 12th of October 2018 at the university with the participation of ten (10) foreign delegates.

Mental Relaxation Programme 

Career Guidance Unit of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully conducted a training programme for the final year undergraduates of the Faculty of Management Studies on ''Stress Management & Mental Relaxation''. The objective of the programme was to make aware the undergraduates towards the mental relaxation and a balance personality in their lives. This session was based on activities which allow them to sense the importance of mental relaxation. The workshop was held on 1st November 2018 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies of the University. The programme was conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, Career Advisor of the University.

Proposal Submission

Upon completion of two programmes under NEDA directions for undergraduate entrepreneur development, business proposal are called for anticipated successful projects. Acceptance of the proposal has been completed by December, 2018. Assessment of proposals for financial granting hitherto be carried out. 

Programmes Conducted by the Career Guidance Unit- 2019

The Need of the Personal Vision and Mission for a successful University Life

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the university successfully conducted a lecture on "The Need of the Personal Vision and Mission for a Successful University Life" on invitation of the Students Counseling Center of the university on 29th January 2019 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages. The lecture was conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, the Career Guidance Counselor of the university. 

Proposal Selection Interviews 

Upon completion of two programmes under NEDA (National Enterprise Development Authority)  directions for undergraduate entrepreneur development, the selected business proposal are called for interviews on 21st February 2019 with the participation of NEDA representatives and managerial representatives from the People’s Bank. Nine (09) candidates are participated for the interview and NEDA will grant Rs.150, 000.00 for each selected successful business proposal.

Career Guidance Unit of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully conducted a training programme for the send year undergraduates of the Faculty of Management Studies on ''Stress Management & Mental Relaxation''. “Manage your Stress for Better University Life” stress management and relaxation programme

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka conducted a stress management and relaxation programme titled “Manage your Stress for Better University Life” 

on 11th June 2019 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences & Languages. The objective of this programme was facilitate first year undergraduates to manage their day to day stress by developing the coping abilities in order to develop a sound university life from their initiative stage of the university. The programme was conducted by Senior Professor Ghanadasa Perera, Head of the Department of Philosophy & Psychology of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. 

Career Fair-2019

Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the university, successfully conducted a Career Fair programme in collaboration with the National Human Resource Development Council (NHRDC) on 10th December 2019 at the Sabaragamuva University premises. 

The main objectives of the programme was develop the industrial link and network with the university and enhance the future career opportunities for the Sabaragamuva University undergraduates. Apart from that school leavers after the Advance Level examination of the Ratnapura Distric Secretariat, were also invited for the programme. By aiming the school leavers, “Career Motivation” secession was also conducted by the CEO of TheMotivator (Pvt) Ltd., Dr(Eng). Ranil Sugathadasa at the inauguration of the event. 

By representing private sector organizations, ten (10) companies were took part the event as career opportunity providers, mean time eleven (11) training institutes were also participated the event by representing private and government sectors. 

Four hundred seventeen (417) undergraduates by representing Social Sciences and Languages, Management Studies, Applied Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Technology Faculties of the university were participated the Career Fair programme and more than eight hundred (800+) school leavers were also participated for the programme throughout the day. 

CGU expect to evaluate the success level of the entire programme by connecting with the participated companies and institutes as well as with NHRDC in order to make more beneficial career development events in the following year.

Programmes Conducted by the Career Guidance Unit- 2020

Personal Grooming Programme

As the 1st webinar of the year this programme was successfully conducted for the Faculty of Geomatics, mostly for the 3rd and final year undergraduates. The major objective of the programme was empowering undergraduates with the awareness of the personal grooming and social etiquettes with a special concerning of the professional life and corporate sector requirements. This webinar was conducted by Mr. Deepal Wiajayasekara, Career Advisor of SUSL on 05.05.2020 from 2PM to 4PM with the participation of the nearly 100 undergraduates of the faculty. 

Career Vision Development Programme

This programme was conducted as a webinar for the undergraduates of the Faculty of Geomatics. The main objective of the programme was keep the focus and the momentum of the undergraduates due to the Covid-19 home staying period. Even though the key target group of the webinar the 1st and 2nd year undergraduates of the faculty, all the interested undergraduates are invited for the programme.  The programme was successfully held on 19.05.2020 from 2PM to 4PM and conducted by Mr. Deepal Wiajayasekara, Career Advisor of SUSL with the participation of nearly 100 participants and the programme was conducted on request of the faculty. 

Rapport Building Programme 

This was a tailor made programme conducted for the university administration staff. The key objectives of the programme were empowering the target group with the awareness of the communication skills and enhance the potentials of rapport building capacity among the audience. The programme conducted as a workshop, enriched with individual and group activities. This was conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, Career Advisor of SUSL on 12.08.2020 from 2PM to 4PM at the Council Chamber of the university. 

CV Writing Programme

This programme was conducted for the final year undergraduates of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. The objective of the programme was preparing the audience with the skills of curriculum vitae writing for applying the opportunities of the world of work. The programme was successfully conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, Career Advisor of SUSL on 29.11.2020 from 10AM to 1PM in an online platform with the participation of around 60 undergraduates. As a part of this programme CGU allowed participants to submit their CVs for further developments.  

Career Vision Development Programme      

This webinar also conducted for the undergraduates of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. The purpose of this programme was developing a sound career intention among the 1st year undergraduates of the faculty. The programme was successfully conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, Career Advisor of SUSL on 10.12.2020 from 10AM to 1PM. The two programmes conducted for the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences was conducted on request of the faculty. 

Series of the Programme Named "Vision for the New Beginning"

As a concept of the Director of CGU, CGU started a series of a programme titled "Vision for the New Beginning". The major scope of this programme series is strengthen 1st year undergraduates for a sound career oriented university life from their very first beginning. 

As the first step of this series CGU conducted the webinar for the Faculty of Technology on 10.12.2020 from 10AM to 12Noon with a highly satisfactory volume of participation of the faculty. 

As the second step of this series CGU conducted the programme successfully for the undergraduates of the Faculty of Applied Sciences on 30.12.2020 from 10AM to 12Noon.  These programmes were conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, Career Advisor of SUSL.

"Vision for the Journey" Programme for the University of Colombo 

On an invitation of the Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of University of Colombo, SUSL-CGU conducted a programme for the undergraduates of the University of Colombo on 22.12.2020 from 10AM to 12Noon as a webinar.  The objective of the programme was to build focused career intention and enhance the updated awareness of the world of work among the undergraduates. CGU of SUSL considered this opportunity as rewarded regard for Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. The programme was conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, Career Advisor of SUSL. 

Accomplishment 

Apart from the above programmes, CGU is glade to mention, under an entrepreneurship development programme conducted by CGU in collaboration with the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce named “Upadhidari Vyavasayake Udanaya”, four (04) graduates of SUSL by representing Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Faculty of Management Studies and Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages received their business development grants (Rs.150,000.00 per each graduate) in order to commence their own business. The award ceremony of this programme was held glamorously on 08 December 2020 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).
