About the Quality Assurance Cell

The Quality Assurance (QA) practices of higher education institutions of Sri Lanka is regulated under the Quality Assurance Council of Sri lanka. The QAC explains the concepts of QA that need to be met by all the higher educational institutes of the country. Sabaragamuwa university is also having a Senate Standing Committee on Quality Assurance (SSC-QA) to regulate the quality assurance related activities in the university. The QA council has published a handbook for university libraries of Sri Lanka explaining the QA practices and guidelines: 

Sabaragamuwa university of Sri Lanka initiated the QA practices to uplift the academic excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs by ensuring quality of educational practices in 2018. Through the bylaw No.02, 2020 the Center for Quality assurance provide provisions for the librarian and a nominee to be participated in the CQA meetings. Quality assurance cells of the faculties were established and started to be functioned by the provisions made under the QA bylaws, No.01, 2018 and No.02, 2020.

The Library Quality Assurance Cell (LQAC) was suggested to be established by the 36^th SSC-QA meeting held in 22.12.2021. University senate at its 259^th meeting held on 14.01.2022 approved the establishment of the QA cell for the library and its composition. The LQAC also approved by the 233^rd Library Committee held in 08.03.2022. Accordingly, the bylaws for internal quality assurance was amended to enable and defined provisions for the Library quality assurance cell and its composition to be activated and the LQAC coordinator was accepted as a member of the SSC-QA meetings. The very first LQAC meeting was taken place in 18.05.2022 Time: 10:00 am, at the Main Library of the Sabaragamuwa University. Later, the bylaws for internal quality assurance was amended again by the No. 02, 2022 to expand the composition of the LQAC to its present composition.

In this By-Law, the term 'quality' implies the highest standards and relevance in excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes to strengthen the ranking at national and global scale.

Quality objective of the university

Centre for Quality Assurance of Sabaragamuwa University looks up to achieve the excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes to strengthen the ranking at national and global scale.

Responsibilities of the QA Cell coordinators

1. Promote a quality culture in the Faculty in all QA related activities as a representative

2. Liaise with the Director, Centre for Quality Assurance (CQA) of the University to coordinate university level Quality Assurance (QA) activities

3. Organize Faculty Level QA meetings on two months basis

4. Prepare the annual Faculty Quality Assurance report at the end of each year

5. Attend to specific issues as recommended by the University Quality Assurance Standing Committee from time to time

6. Provide guidance in preparation of Self-Evaluation Reports (SER) for Programme Review

7. Liaise with professional quality assurance and accreditation bodies on matters pertaining to QA and accreditation, if required

8. Monitor the collation and analysis of Faculty Level QA data such as peer review forms and student feedback forms

9. Coordinate with other related committees and units within the Faculty on matters related to QA activities

10. Answer and address issues related to QA raised by the faculty members in general

11. Report the activities of the Faculty QA Cell to the Faculty Board and CQA regularly
