Community Outreach

SUSL Library system is willing to share the latest developments in the field of Library and Information Sciences with the related community levels. School librarians, Public librarians, University librarians, and other related parties can get involved in these outreach programs.

Demonstration on a digital library project "Let's Read"

The Asia Foundation in collaboration with the main library, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully conducted a demonstration on a digital library project "Let's Read" introduced by the Asia Foundation on 08th February 2022 from 10.00 am to 11.00 am via ZOOM. This service facilitates the users with a reading platform which contains freely available e-books in 40 different languages including English, Sinhala and Tamil. This platform is managed by the Asia Foundation, and it is used in 18 different countries.

Reading Month Celebration -2022

In celebration of the literature and reading months, Karagasthalawa primary school in collaboration with school library development committee and grade 3 students organized a book perahera on 01.09.2022 at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. The library academic staff, SUSL graced this event with their presence and Mrs. T. N. Neighsoorei Jayah, the librarian, donated valuable books to encourage the reading habit of those students. 

 

 

Book donation, counseling session for Kularathna Ophanage, Godakawela

Mrs. Neighsoorei Jayah, the librarian organized a counselling session at the Kularathna Ophanage at Godakawela on 12th March. The medical officers of Balangoda base hospital contributed to this session. Further, the librarian donated a set of valuable books for the children to enhance their reading habits. 

 

Library development Consultation: Opanayaka Public Library, Weligepola Pradeshiya Sabha 

The main library, SUSL has expanded their community services providing their intellectual contribution to the Opanayaka Public Library, Weligepola Pradeshiya Sabha. As per the guidance of the Professor R.M. Udaya Rathnayake, Vice-Chancellor, SUSL, the librarian, Mrs. Neighsoorei Jayah, Senior Assistant Librarian, Mr. Kusala Fernando and Assistant Librarian, Ms. Thrishala Warnasooriya visited this library on 18th February 2022. The discussion with Mr. Kelum Jayasinghe, the chairman, of Weligepola Pradeshiya Sabha and the library staff resulted with a proper plan for their key initiatives including the makers space, green library practices with a herbal garden, proposed children park, art gallery, museum and village house structure.
