Centre for Computer Studies
The Centre for Computer Studies (CCS) was established in 1992 (then the Sabaragamuwa Affiliated University College) as an umbrella centre which facilitates the catering for different academic programs offered by different Departments and provides other IT services required to improve academic program and administration. This purpose has not been changed after establishing the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka in 1996. The centre is administered by the Director appointed by the Vice Chancellor with the approval of the University Council.Management hierarchy for the CCS is flowing under the Director of CCS, consisting of academic staff, academic supportive staff and non-academic staff.
The CCS provides many IT-related academic and technical services to the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. Broadly two types of services are rendered by the CCS including academic services and other IT related services. As academic services are concerned, the centre is conducting and supervising different IT-related academic programs of different faculties. The academic activities are conducted by qualified academic staff including senior lecturers, lecturers and instructors while providing all kinds of technical assistance by the network administrators and technical assistance staff. The CCS, through its friendly staff, serves the whole student community of the university throughout their academic programme.
In addition, the centre provides University web service and email facility for the entire university community. Campus-wide Internet and networking facility, virtual learning environment with other network services, e-learning facility and hardware software maintenance services are the technical services provided by the Centre for Computer Studies. The campus-wide network contains more than a thousand and five hundred computers and computer-related equipment such as multimedia projectors, IP phone network, video conferencing unit for academic, administrative and office activities. All maintenance activities, technical planning and evaluations for advance improvements of hardware infrastructure and software environments are obtained by the technical staff of the centre with its online problem-solving system.
