Appropriate Conduct in the English Activity Room
The primary goal of the English Activity Room is to enhance the English language proficiency of the students and the guidelines concerning the appropriate use of the English Activity Room are formulated with this goal in mind. While almost all students have a positive and productive experience in the English Activity Room and find it a supportive and safe learning environment, we do need to establish certain guidelines for appropriate behavior.
Students’ Use of the English Activity Room - Guidelines for Responsible Use
Use of the English Activity Room is a privilege extended to the students of the Faculty of Applied Sciences to support learning and promote academic success. It provides students with access to computers, books, periodicals, and other academic help, comfortable seating, and formal and informal learning spaces. In order to keep their good standing, students must adhere to the following guidelines.
- Students should register with the fingerprint authentication system and place their fingerprints when entering the English Activity Room.
- Students are expected to behave in a civil manner that does not interfere with other people using the facility. Excessive displays of affection, struggling, and similar physical contact activities are considered a disturbance.
- Students are encouraged to use the facility for individual and group work, but students who participate in groups that become disruptive through excessive noise or other disruptive behaviors will be held accountable, individually and collectively, for their actions.
- Talking in a normal voice that does not disturb others or quiet cell phone use is permitted in the facility.
- Playing musical instruments as well as music from smartphones, tablets, and similar devices without headphones is considered a disturbance.
- Students are expected to leave the furniture, digital equipment and accessories in good condition for the next person’s use.
- Food and drinks are not permitted in the English Activity Room.
- Reading materials (books, periodicals, etc.) and media are designated for “Reference Only” and may not be removed from the English Activity Room.
- Students referencing the materials are responsible for returning them in the same condition.
- Students are responsible for paying any fines incurred for lost or damaged materials charged to their accounts.
- Students are expected to obey copyright laws and applicable software licenses.
- Printing Regulations:
- Prints are only issued under the guidance of an academic staff member.
- Please limit this service for printing Application/ Registration forms related to English examinations.
- All the printing must be recorded in the printer usage log book against the student’s name. The prints must be for the student’s personal use only. Students are not permitted to print documents for other individuals.
- Students who violate the above guidelines may lose their English Activity Room privileges, and have an academic hold placed on future registration.
