Launching InfoBhoomi Web

The GeoTech-Hub at the Faculty of Geomatics hosted a momentous event on the 26th of April 2023 at the Waters Edge in Battaramulla. The event was focused on the launch of InfoBhoomi Web, a revolutionary tool for Smart Local Land Management, with the participation of key stakeholders in both local and foreign sector.

The event commenced with a welcome speech by Prof. RMUSK Rathnayaka, Vice Chancellor of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. This was followed by remarks from Mr. Sagala Rathnayake, Chief of Staff to the President of Sri Lanka and National Security Advisor, and Hon. Minister Harin Fernando, Minister of Lands and Tourism. The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Walter de Vries, Chair Professor of Land Management and Land Tenure at the Technical University of Munich. Mr. Buwaneka Herath, Secretary of Land Ministry, and Mr. Janake Rathnayake, Former Mayor of the Municipal Council Bandarawela, also shared their remarks.

The highlight of the event was the launch of the InfoBhoomi Web by Dr. NMP Milinda Piyasena and his team. This was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Vishaka Hidellage and a few presentations were also conducted by the Sponsors during this time.

The event continued with an exhibition and a networking session, where attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the InfoBhoomi Web and connect with professionals from the industry. The evening session focused on the formation of the Society for Sustainable Land and Space (SOLAS), where Dr. N.M.P. Milinda Piyasena presented the objectives and the constitution of the society. This was followed by a panel discussion on the necessity of SOLAS. The programme concluded with an event dinner.

The launch of InfoBhoomi Web was a significant achievement for the GeoTech-Hub and the Faculty of Geomatics of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, as it showcased their commitment towards creating sustainable solutions for Smart Local Land Management. The event provided an excellent platform for professionals from the industry to connect and collaborate towards this common goal.
