The primary objectives of the Astronomical Society of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka are:

• To promote interest, awareness, and knowledge in astronomy and astrophysics among university students, school students & teachers and the general public.
• To establish a recognized and sustainable platform within SUSL for coordinating astronomy-related academic, extracurricular, and outreach activities.
• To strengthen collaborations with national and international entities, including the astronomy department of Arthur C. Clarke Institute (ACCIMT) to obtain access to the telescopes and other astronomical facilities.
• To encourage student-led research, innovation, and scientific inquiry in astronomy, astrophysics, and space science.
• To support and complement the academic curriculum through observational programs, workshops, and public engagement activities.
• To lay the foundation to establish a fully equipped separate body “Center for Astronomy” within the DPST in the near future.
