Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka through University Business Linkage Cell has entered into a Research Agreement with the Lanka Sugar Company Pvt Ltd, Pelwatte on 12th September 2022 to establish mutually beneficial collaborations in conducting collaborative research with regard to monitor the health conditions of the sugar cane plantations and the maturity levels of plants using remote sensing techniques and dissemination of knowledge for the purpose of enhancing the sugar production as well as search avenues for further collaborations.
The agreement was signed by The Vice-Chancellor of Sabaragamuwa University; Senior Prof. Udaya Rathnayaka and the Chairman – Lanka Sugar Company Pvt Ltd, Pelwatta Unit, Mr. Janaka Nimalachandra.
This agreement allows both parties to engage in the following corporate activities;
- Identification of plant growth stages by using multispectral UAV images
- Assessment of the yield of sugarcane fields by using UAV based imagery
- Facilitate research activities of the university students (undergraduate, masters and doctoral research) based on their capacity.
- Providing necessary training facilities for undergraduate students of the university.
