Seed Capital Allocation Program

With the support of Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD) project we fund innovations to create the next game-changing technologies in need of research and development to create new products, services, and other scalable solutions. This funding provides up to Rs. 100,000.00 per project to move promising technologies closer to the market. If you need further information on that funding program, please contact Our Office

How to Apply

Interested applicants can fill the application form and submit the completed form to our office
through the recommendation of the Faculty Coordinators.

Evaluation Committee Review: The Evaluation Committee, composed of academic experts from different disciplines will review your proposals during your presentation. The presentation should be focused on the following criteria;

  • Novelty of the Invention/Product – How novel the solution is to the market or industry?
  • Intellectual Eminence of Inventive Process – Is your invention not obvious to a person skilled in the art?
  • Value Proposition – What existing problem does this technology solve?
  • Market Potential – How will the results of the project improve the market potential of the technology? What barriers to commercialization are lowered or removed because of the project? Is there significant competition from other products that are already in the market or is this technology new and/or disruptive?
  • Market Value – How will the results of the project increase the value of the technology? What risks are removed for potential licensees or investors because of this work?

Evaluation of the 1st Round

Under the 1st round we have executed six evaluation sessions to select the academic staff- student collaborative research projects to be considered for seed capital. 22 projects received from Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Faculty of Applied Sciences have been selected by the evaluation panels.

Evaluation of the 2nd Round

The Seed Capital Allocation Program of UBL Cell was held on 26th October 2022 at the Meeting Room of the UBL Cell (Next to the CODL Building), Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. The submitted proposals were evaluated under an evaluation panel comprising experts in different subject fields to select the most competitive invention with the commercial value.

Innovation is anything that proposes an alternative to something that is done in a certain way, brings economic and behavioral benefits, solves problems, or makes people’s daily lives more practical. It can be related to a product, service, process, market, means of production, technology, or anything else that brings about a change that becomes sustained and indispensable.
