All Directors and Managers of UBL Cells and HEI Cells participated for a Technology Transfer Workshop organized by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) in coordination with United States Patent and Trademark Office and Cornell University, which was conducted on September 25-29, 2022, in Kathmandu, Nepal. The workshop was focused on key terms and conditions for licensing agreements, technology valuation, and negotiation basics.
In support of the Government of Sri Lanka’s efforts to create a strong intellectual property (IP) regime, including the protection and exploitation of IP rights in the public and private sector, CLDP, with the help of USPTO and various universities in the US, are working with select all state universities across Sri Lanka to establish university business linkages (UBL) and Higher Education Institutions (HEI) cells that will function as technology transfer offices. In line with that, this program was designed to build the capacity of Directors, and Managers of UBL and HEI Cells to identify, evaluate, protect, and exploit IP created within their organizations, focusing on IP commercialization.
