Department of Economics & Statistics

The Department of Economics and Statistics is the fourth Department which is attached to the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages in the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. This Department was established under the Gazette Extraordinary No. 1602/19 May 21, 2009 by the Ministry of Higher Education with the recommendation of the University Grants Commission.

The formation of the Department of Economics and Statistics has improved the framework for instruction and research in Economics, Statistics and IT and has created opportunities for designing new programmes that meet emerging market requirements. The Department produces graduates of Economics, Statistics and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipped with essential knowledge specialized in general plus intellectual discipline, analytical skills and immigration that will enable them to contribute creatively in any sphere of employment. The latest on the record is the Master of Science in Business Economics and Master of Science in Applied Statistics , a flagship project that will commence by the end of this year. The Department maintains a strong link with international and regional organization with similar or related mandates.
