Discussion with Peace Corps Sri Lanka on English Language Support for Geomatics Undergraduates
On October 20th, 2026, Ms. Shamali Jayarathne, a Program Manager of Peace Corps Sri Lanka, met with the Vice-Chancellor of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, Prof. S.A. Ariyadurai, the Dean of the Faculty of Geomatics, Dr. G.S.N. Perera, and the Head of the Department of Remote Sensing and GIS, Prof. P.G.R.N.I. Pussella, to discuss strategies for enhancing the English language proficiency of undergraduate students.
The discussion focused on strengthening students’ English communication skills, building their confidence in using the language, and creating more opportunities for practical language learning to support their academic success and future career development.
As a key step towards these objectives, the possibility of placing two U.S. Peace Corps volunteers at the Faculty of Geomatics was discussed. The volunteers would support English language learning activities and help students improve their communication skills through interactive and engaging learning experiences.
The Faculty of Geomatics appreciates the support and collaboration of Peace Corps Sri Lanka in exploring opportunities to strengthen English language education and enhance the professional competencies of its undergraduates.
