12. Warm Welcome Extended to the 2023/24 Batch
The Geography Association of the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, warmly welcomed the incoming 2023/24 batch to our vibrant academic community. We are proud to have embraced a new group of enthusiastic and talented students, whose selection reflects their dedication, perseverance, and potential. The welcome marked the beginning of their journey in a dynamic and inclusive environment where creativity, curiosity, and collaboration flourish. 11. Navora GEM Awrudu 2025
“Navora GEM Awrudu 2025” New Year Celebration of the Department of Geography and Environmental Management was successfully concluded on 04th April 2025 at Prof. Dayananda Somasundara Auditorium, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages. It organized as the first time by Association of Geography to refresh and develop the bond of staff and undergraduates of the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.
10. Webinar on Biodiversity Day
On 25th May, 2025, The Association of Geography was organized by the Webinar for International Biodiversity Day. Through this event, undergraduates of Department of Geography and Environmental Management gained enthusiastic engagement and commitment to environmental awareness. The event was conducted by Dr. Ajith Gunawardena, Director of Environment Education and Awareness at the Central Environmental Authority of Sri Lanka.
09. Tree Planting Campaign
On 04th June, 2025, the Association of Geography was organized by the Tree Planting Campaign to remark World Environment Day. Under this program, a Mee (Madhuca Longifolia) plant was planted at the faculty premises. This concept was introduced by the EcoNexus Green Club at Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine.
08. New Office Bearers of the Association of Geography (2024/2025)
The new office bearers of the Association of Geography, Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka for the year 2025 have been appointed. We wish the new leadership to develop the Association of Geography in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management and continue their work successfully.
07. ILLUMINATE 2024
“Illuminate 2024” Annual Department Get-together of the Department of Geography and Environmental Management was successfully concluded on 25th November 2024 at Main Auditorium of the university. It organized as the first time by Association of Geography to refresh and develop the bond of staff, alumni members and undergraduates of the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

The new office bearers of the Association of Geography, Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka for the year 2024 have been appointed. 05. A Star Observation Activity
On April 8, 2024, The Association of Geography arranged a stargazing camp to broaden one's horizons through sky exploration while studying environmental conditions. The aim of this program was to provide geography students with experiences regarding the objects seen in the night sky.
04. Project Exploration at Samalawewa
On April 6, 2024, undergraduate students from the Department of Geography and Environmental Management undertook a project exploration to study the Samanala Wewa hydro-power project, aiming to expand the field knowledge and experience of geography students. Guided by experts, our students delved deep into the project's impact, gaining invaluable insights. This experience was a privilege, reminding us of the importance of education and exploration in shaping our understanding of the world.
03. Geography for Promoting Tourism in Hawagala
On the 25th of February 2024, undergraduate students from the Department of Geography and Environmental Management done a hike to Hawagala Mountain in Belihul Oya. The aim of this excursion was to showcase the mountain's beauty and ecological significance to promote sustainable tourism in Hawagala while providing a one-of-a-kind environmental experience.
02. Environment Experience at Hirikatu Oya
On February 16, 2024, the Association of Geography organized and conducted an environmental experience program in association with Hirikatu Oya. The purpose of this event was to enhance the field knowledge and experience of geography students and provide them with valuable insights into the operation of field instruments.
01. Samanala Wewa Area clean-up Programme
In conjunction to the World Cleanup Day on 16th of September, a cleanup program was organized and held in Pambahinna area by the Association of Geography, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka on 18th of September at 1.00PM.
