09. Publication of Volume II, Issue II of the Sri Lanka Journal of Geography and Environmental Management
The Sri Lanka Journal of Geography and Environmental Management (SLJGEM) is pleased to announce the publication of Volume II, Issue II, published by the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. This issue features a collection of peer-reviewed research articles addressing key themes in geography and environmental management, including eco-tourism and sustainable development, cartography, water resource management in dry climatic regions, and socio-economic conditions in plantation-based livelihoods. The journal aims to promote the dissemination of research that enhances understanding of spatial, environmental, and socio-economic processes, and invites academics, researchers, and students to access and engage with the published work.
06. Erasmus+ IGnite Project Kick-off Meeting
The Kick-off Meeting of the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) Project – IGnite (Inclusive Green Education for Bridging the Gaps in Higher Education and Career Development) was successfully held on 5th and 6th January 2026 at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo.
Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka participated as a partner university in this prestigious project, led by the University of Colombo in collaboration with the University of Peradeniya, the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The IGnite Project aims to strengthen inclusive green education through the development of an online BSc programme in Sustainable Regional Planning and Climate Resilience, promoting access to higher education, employability, and climate resilience. The kick-off meeting marked an important step towards curriculum development and long-term institutional collaboration.
05. Anniversary Celebration of the DGEM
The Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka proudly marks 10 Years of Academic Excellence, Innovation, and Impact. Our 10-years journey stands as a testament to our pursuit of knowledge, environmental understanding, and community engagement. This milestone honors every student, educator, and partner who helped us reach new horizons.
04. GNSS & Drone Survey
The Department of Geography and Environmental Management was successfully organized the workshop on GNSS and Drone survey. It was scheduled 30th of April at 8.00 a.m. onwards at the Faculty of Geomatics premises. It was collaboratively organized by the Department of Remote Sensing and GIS together with Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. Academic staff members and undergraduates of the Department of Geography and Environmental Management were encouraged to participate and make use of this opportunity to deepen their expertise in GIS, GPS and Drone applications.
03. GIS Workshop-GIS Spatial Analysis in Arc GIS Pro
The Department of Geography and Environmental Management at SUSL is organizing a workshop on GIS Spatial Analysis in ArcGIS Pro for academic staff members. Scheduled for February 11th, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM via Zoom, the session will be conducted by experts from GIS Solutions (Pvt) Ltd, Colombo, including Mr. Supun Siriwardena (General Manager), Ms. Chamodani Wijesinghe (Technical Manager/Trainer), and Mr. Deshan Sellahewa (GIS Analyst). The workshop will focus on enhancing skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis. Academic staff members are encouraged to participate and make use of this opportunity to deepen their expertise in GIS applications.
02. GIS Workshop-Introduction to ArcGIS PRO
To equip academic staff members with advanced skills and knowledge in ArcGIS Pro, enhancing their capabilities in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for research, teaching, and professional development within the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at SUSL.

This is a unique workshop designed to expose students to the world of Geo-spatial Narratives. Engage in a dialogue with a distinguished researcher from the University of Helsinki, Finland, and gain valuable insights into their research adventures is the main objective. The workshop is organized by the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.
