Event Description – Caffeine & Bonds: An Evening of Coffee + Connections
“Sip, Share, and Strengthen Bonds”
On the 24th of March 2025, the Department of English Language Teaching (DELT) at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka hosted a cozy and vibrant evening titled “Caffeine & Bonds” at the DELT premises, beginning at 6:00 PM onwards.
This unique event brought together students and staff in a relaxed setting designed to foster meaningful conversations, build connections, and unwind after a busy academic routine. Guests enjoyed freshly brewed coffee, warm snacks, and a welcoming atmosphere filled with laughter and friendly exchanges.
The highlight of the evening was a series of interactive board games that encouraged teamwork and camaraderie, making the event both fun and memorable. With its perfect blend of caffeine and connection, the event created an ideal space for open dialogue and light-hearted engagement.
“Caffeine & Bonds” successfully lived up to its name—brewing not just coffee, but also stronger ties within the DELT community.
Halloween Party
The DELT Student Circle gathered for an unforgettable evening of thrills, laughter, and creativity at the Halloween Celebration held on the 7th of November 2024. Although the celebration came a few days after the traditional date, the spirit of Halloween was very much alive — with spooky decorations, themed activities, and imaginative costumes transforming the DELT premises into a festive haunt.
Students arrived dressed in their most creative and eerie costumes, setting the stage for a night filled with fun competitions, games, and lively performances. The event encouraged participation, self-expression, and most of all, community spirit — with both students and lecturers joining in the Halloween cheer.
From ghostly giggles to thrilling surprises, the evening proved that learning spaces can also be spaces for celebration and joy. It was a night to remember, highlighting the energy, imagination, and togetherness that the DELT Student Circle continues to bring to the department.

DELT Awards Ceremony
The Department of English Language Teaching (DELT) held its annual Awarding Ceremony on the 2nd of April 2024, at 6.00 PM at the DELT premises. The event was organized by the DELT Student Circle, showcasing their outstanding organizational skills and collaborative spirit.
The ceremony was a celebration of student achievement, creativity, and service. One of the evening’s main highlights was the distribution of certificates to the winners of competitions conducted by the department throughout the academic year. These competitions included public speaking, creative writing, poetry recitation, and other English language-based events designed to foster student engagement and language development.
Moreover, certificates of appreciation were presented to the active members of the DELT Student Circle, in recognition of their dedicated service and contributions toward the smooth functioning of departmental activities. Their commitment, leadership, and teamwork played a vital role in making DELT events a continued success.
The Awarding Ceremony not only celebrated individual and collective accomplishments but also strengthened the sense of community and enthusiasm within the department. It served as a reminder that student-led initiatives are at the heart of a vibrant and active academic environment.
90s Music Night
The DELT Student Circle turned back the clock on the 19th of October 2023, as the 90s Music Night brought vibrant retro vibes to the DELT premises. With cassette players, neon colors, and classic 90s hits setting the tone, the event was a joyful throwback that had everyone grooving!
Students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages embraced the spirit of the decade, showing up in their best retro and vintage outfits, ready to dance, sing, and relive the golden age of pop culture. The evening was filled with fun, laughter, and shared nostalgia—reminding everyone that the 90s never really go out of style.
It wasn’t just a night of music; it was a celebration of timeless tunes, unforgettable fashion, and community spirit.
Coffee Table Evening Gathering
On the 6th of June 2023, the DELT Student Circle hosted a cozy and engaging Coffee Table Evening Gathering at the DELT premises. Designed to create a relaxed space for connection and conversation, this event welcomed students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages for an evening of warmth, laughter, and meaningful interactions.
With the comforting aroma of coffee in the air and soft chatter filling the space, the gathering provided an ideal setting for students to unwind, network, and share ideas beyond the classroom. Whether it was casual catch-ups or thoughtful exchanges, the event fostered a true sense of community among peers and lecturers alike.
This informal evening was not just about coffee—it was about creating memories, strengthening bonds, and celebrating the spirit of togetherness that defines the DELT family.

Adulting: Navigating the Journey to Adulthood
On the 19th of April 2023, the Student Circle of the Department of English Language Teaching organized a thought-provoking and heartfelt discussion titled "Adulting: Navigating the Journey to Adulthood." Held via Zoom, the session brought together students and lecturers for an open conversation about the realities, challenges, and unexpected lessons of growing into adulthood.
The discussion featured three inspiring guest speakers from the department — Dr. K.S.N. Prasangani, Ms. U.B.A.H.N. Perera, and Ms. A.D. Maxworth — who each brought unique perspectives and personal stories to the virtual table. From managing responsibilities and making independent decisions to finding balance and purpose in life, the speakers touched on topics that deeply resonated with the student audience.
This event created a warm, relatable, and reflective space for participants to think about what it really means to ‘adult’ in today’s world. It reminded everyone that while adulthood comes with its share of pressures, it's also a journey of growth, resilience, and self-discovery.
Xmas eve
“Spreading Joy and Togetherness”
The Department of English Language Teaching (DELT) of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka warmly celebrated Christmas Eve on the 23rd of December 2022, starting from 6.00 PM onwards at the DELT premises. The event brought together staff, students, and well-wishers in a joyful atmosphere filled with music, laughter, and festive spirit. The evening featured a variety of performances, including Christmas carols, drama skits, and games, all centered around the themes of peace, goodwill, and cultural harmony. Beautifully decorated spaces, a glowing Christmas tree, and the aroma of seasonal treats added to the magical ambiance. The celebration not only highlighted the creative talents of DELT students but also fostered unity and warmth among all participants, reminding everyone of the joy of giving and sharing. It was a heartwarming evening that left everyone with cherished memories and a renewed spirit of togetherness as the year drew to a close.
