History of the Department of Information Technology

The Department of Information Technology at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka is the sixth academic department within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages. Although it was officially gazetted under No. 1903/63 on February 27, 2015 by the Ministry of Higher Education (with the recommendation of the University Grants Commission), the Department formally opened its doors—and welcomed its first cohort of students and staff—on April 1, 2022.

  On June 3, 2023, Mr. RMNB Rathnayake, Senior Lecturer in Computer Science, became the Department’s inaugural Head, steering the vision, curriculum design, and research agenda.
