Programmes Conducted by the Career Guidance Unit- 2022

Virtual Educational Event Organized by the Colombo Stock Exchange
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24th  January as the International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development. In line with that,  the Colombo Stock Exchange has organized an virtual educational event to be held on 24th January 2022 for undergraduates who are reading degree programmes in government universities.  

CGU-SUSL organized the above programme in collaboration with Colombo Stock Exchange- Ratnapura branch for the undergraduates of Faculty of Management Studies on 24th January at 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m as an event of career development in the students.

Content of the event is as follows;

  • Career Objective and Investment (Presenter: Mr. Jaliya Rathnayake, Career Guidance Counselor, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka)
  • Career Investors (Presenters: CSE Officials)

Upgrade Your Professional Qualifications
CGU-SUSL organized this programme in collaboration with APEX Institute of Management Services (AIMS) to the Year IV students of the Faculty of Management Studies and Faculty of Applied Sciences. A free webinar was organized to make aware about the students on how to develop carrier qualifications with AIMS creating more opportunities to the industry. A webinar was organized on 2nd April 2022 at 6.00 p.m.

Webinar on Social Media and Mental Health
Modern netizens spend most of their time with digital devices. Consequently, most of them have become victims of digital stress. Interactions with digital devices cause digital stress. It can be a physical interaction (the sitting position) or a mental (digital) interaction. This forum mainly discussed the mental stress caused by digital interactions and its consequences in personality. The resource person was Dr. Lankesh Munasinghe, Senior Lecturer, Software Engineering Teaching Unit, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya. The webinar was held on 26th May 2022 at 7.00 pm. The Target audience was interesting students in all faculties.

Content was as follows:
Introduction to Netizens (Citizens of cyberspace)            
Introduction to Digital stress: (Physical and mental stress)
Social activities on digital devices cause mental stress based on social activities in cyberspace.
Weak personality problems caused by online interactions:
Social Informatics: How technology shapes the social interactions of netizens.

CLIMB UP YOUR CAREER LADDER -Awareness Programme on Internship Opportunities at Unilever Sri Lanka
This webinar was organized by the CGU- SUSL in collaboration with Unilever- Sri Lanka to make aware the students on current internship opportunity available at Unilever Sri Lanka, and to join with a renowned multinational company in Sri Lanka to secure a golden opportunity to climb up their Career Ladder. The webinar was held on Monday 27th June 2022 at 6.00 pm. Resource persons were from the Unilever Sri Lanka Company. Target audience was third year and fourth year students who is doing management studies.

“English for Professional Development,”
This webinar was held on July 29th, 2022, and it was organized by the Faculty Career Guidance Unit of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. The resource person was Ms D. D. Dhananji Mannapperuma, Demonstrator in English, Department of Surveying and Geodesy, Faculty of Geomatics. She is an alumni member of the university and shared her experiences. The target audience were students of the English language Department.

This webinar was conducted on 8th August at 8.30-10.30 a.m by H.H.S.U.Samarakoon,Lecturer (Temporary),Department of English Language Teaching,Faculty of Management,Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka. She is an alumnus of SUSL. The webinar was organized by the Faculty Career Guidance Unit of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.The target audience were the interesting students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and languages.
