Programmes Conducted by the Career Guidance Unit- 2015

Certificate Awarding Ceremony of Entrepreneurship Development Programme

This Entrepreneurship Development Programme was conducted by the Career Guidance Unit of the University in the collaboration with National Entrepreneurship Development Authority (NEDA) Sri Lanka. The first progarmme was launched based on the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences as a pilot project. The certificates awarding of this programme was successfully held on 27th November 2015 at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

the same day the interviews were also conducted for the selection of the entrepreneurship grants, which are offered by NEDA, Sri Lanka, in order to hand the undergraduates to start their own businesses. The Interview was conducted based on the business proposals submitted by the undergraduates of Agricultural Sciences. The expected grant is Rs.150000.00 for each selected undergraduate.

CV Writing & Interview Facing Skills Development Programme

This progarmme was organized on 12th November 2015 from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm at the Faculty of Geomatics. The main objective of this programme was to develop the CV writing & Interview facing skills of the undergraduates of Faculty of Geomatics prior to their industrial placements. The programme was conducted by Mr. Deepal Wijayasekara, Career Advisor of the University.

The "Final Step"- Soft Skills Development Programme

The "final step" soft skills development programme, presented by John Keells Foundation in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka was held on 14th, 15th & 16th July 2015 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. This soft skills development programme can be identified as a bridge, which fills-up the gap between employer expectations and job expectations of Sri Lankan University graduates. The major objective of this programme was to develop the undergraduates' soft skills level parallel to their University education. The inaugural session was held on 14th July 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages of the University. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chandana P Udawatte was the chief guest of this inauguration and the most significant feature was the enthusiastic participation of the students.

"Personality Development Programme"

Career Guidance Unit of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and Image Consultants successfully organized a "Personality Development Programme" at Global Towers, Colombo from 8.30am to 5.30pm on 8th July 2015. The programme was sponsored by CEAT Kelani Tyres and facilitated by Image Consultants.

The programme focused on Personal grooming and best hygiene practices, Appropriate dress code, Social, business & dinning etiquettes and How to face an interview successfully. Selected 37 undergraduates by representing Faculty of Management Studies, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Faculty of Geomatices were actively participated for the programme. Director of Image Consultants, Mrs. Nayana Karunaratne and General Manager of Image Consultants, Ms Irushi Aluwihare were conducted the sessions.

"ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME"

Career Guidance Unit of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka initiated an entrepreneurship development programme named "UPADIDHARI VIYAPARIKA UDANAYA - 2015" in collaboration with the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) on 4th & 5th July 2015.

The target group of this pilot programme was the final year undergraduates of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences who are interested to start their own businesses in their career endeavors. The programme was held successfully at the Auditorium of the faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

"Career Guidance for New Undergraduates"

Career Guidance Unit of the University successfully organized a programme on "Career Guidance for New Undergraduates" with a collaboration of Students Counseling Center on 21st 22nd and 23rd of April 2015 at the University. Mr. Ajith Jayewardane, Senior Lecturer of Sri Lanka Foundation took part as the resource person of the programme.
