The Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages (FSSL) of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka had its commencement at the same time when the University commissioned its study programs in 1996.
The faculty is divided into six departments, which offer fifteen-degree programs. These programs are committed to fulfilling every aspect of the pursuit of the vision and mission set forth by the faculty. This interdisciplinary faculty typically encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including Economics, Statistics, seven Languages, Translation Studies, Sociology, Political Science, Geography, Information and Communication Technology, and more. The faculty often emphasizes critical thinking, research skills, and effective communication, preparing students for careers in various fields such as social work, education, the latest technologies, public policy, international relations, and language-related professions. The Quality Assurance Cell of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages has successfully conducted a workshop titled "Cultivating a Growth Mindset" on 14th October 2025 at 9.00 AM in the Prof. Dayananda Somasundara Auditorium, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.
Dr. HPR Priyankara, Senior Lecturer, Department of Business Management, Faculty of Management Studies, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, served as the resource person.
This workshop helped students begin their university journey with confidence and a positive mindset. They built resilience, strengthened their ability to face challenges, and developed strategies to stay motivated and focused on their goals.
The Quality Assurance Cell of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages has successfully conducted a workshop titled "Strengthening Academic Profiles for Research Publication Success" on 07th October 2025 at 1.30 PM in the CC1 Lab, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages.
Mr. IDKL Fernando, Senior Assistant Librarian, and Ms. T Warnasooriya, Assistant Librarian at the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, served as resource persons.
This workshop has been designed to help academic staff gain a deeper understanding of the importance of developing and maintaining a strong academic presence in the digital space.
The Sabaragamuwa Social Sciences and Languages Studentsโ Annual Symposium 2025 (11th SSLSAS) primarily serves as a platform for final-year undergraduates to present their research findings to the larger academic community. It provides an opportunity to understand the implications of undertaking research and instills lifelong learning in their careers.

The Quality Assurance Cell of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages has successfully conducted a workshop titled "Unlocking the Secrets to Effective Academic Writing" on 17th May 2025 at 1.00 PM via Zoom.
Dr. JKC Dissanayake, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Languages, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, served as the resource person.
The faculty has designed this workshop to provide 4th-year undergraduate students with an understanding of academic writing principles, improved research and reporting skills, and enhanced editing and proofreading abilities.
As a result of this workshop, industrial training students will be able to draft clear, organized reports that highlight their experiences and technical work, while research students will develop the skills to structure dissertations, build strong arguments, review literature, and present findings effectively.
