Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Water Management Institution (IWMI)

On February 7th, 2024, the Faculty of Geomatics entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Water Management Institution (IWMI) to facilitate knowledge sharing and research and development, specifically focusing on Remote Sensing within the Department of Remote Sensing and GIS. The documents were signed by the Vice Chancellor of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and the Director General of IWMI.
Dr. Lal Mutuwatte, the Country Convener and Deputy Country Manager at IWMI, and Mr. Lahiru Madhusanka, a research officer, attended the signing event representing IWMI. On the university's side, Prof. M Sunil Shantha, the Vice Chancellor of Sabaragamuwa University, Dr.H Divithure, the Dean of the Faculty of Geomatics, and Dr. Sanka Perera, the Head of the Department of RSGIS, participated in the signing.
This collaboration offers opportunities for both students and faculty members to actively engage in IWMI's projects and vice versa. IWMI is acknowledged as the leading research institution in Sri Lanka, particularly distinguished in Remote Sensing and geo-spatial data analysis. Through his MoU, annual internship opportunities are guaranteed for students specializing in Remote Sensing and GIS.
Furthermore, the Faculty of Geomatics has received a donation comprising two GNSS receivers,along with all necessary accessories, and a fixed-wing UAV, collectively valued at over 10million rupees based on current market prices.
