The Staff Development Center, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka (SUSL) has taken the responsibility of providing training opportunity for all members of the workforce in particular at SUSL to become an active, efficient providers and facilitators of higher education in Sri Lanka. We provide training for the academic staff to be experts in education who are competent in providing highest quality teaching and to influence the undergraduates to be contributors to the manpower requirement of the country and the world. The Staff Development Center, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka organize activities and programs (formal or informal and on or off campus) to help staff members to learn about responsibilities, develop skills and competencies necessary to accomplish institutional and divisional goals. The Induction program for Academic staff which is mandatory for the confirmation of the post as an academic staff member is conducted each year through our SDC. We also conduct programs for personality and professional development to prepare themselves for advancement of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sr Lanka or beyond. The programs and activities conducted have a dual focus in that they attend to individual staff development and to the organization development. Hence for staff development to be successful, both goals must be achieved. It also requires the commitment of all organizers, resources persons and specially the participants. To ensure that we provide the best opportunities and training, we obtain services of eminent local and overseas resource persons to share their expertise knowledge and experience with our staff members. Staff development requires social context and emphasizes teamwork, built on a foundation of collaboration. Staff development is a process that demonstrates the commonness of purpose of all staff and the crucial nature of individual knowledge and skills to perform assigned duties in relation to the achievement of these larger goals.
Staff development Center objectives:
Facilitate the continued professional development and education of each staff member
Employ accepted methods of teaching and learning in staff development activities
Provide opportunities for staff improvement
Ensure adequate funding for staff development activities and organize staff development activities based upon a careful assessment of staff member needs
