ETHICS REVIEW COMMITTEE
Guidelines
Who Can Apply?
1. Faculty Members
All faculty members conducting independent research or supervising student projects must apply if their work involves:
- Human participants or animal subjects
- Ethically sensitive materials or environmental impacts
Important: ERC-FAS grants ethical clearance only for studies involving human and animal subjects and does not review clinical research.
2. Postgraduate Students
- Thesis & dissertation research
- Fieldwork involving human or animal subjects
- Laboratory experiments with sensitive materials or environmental risks
3. Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate research involving human participants or sensitive data must obtain ethical clearance under supervisor guidance.
4. External Researchers
- Use of university facilities
- Human or sensitive data collection
- Impact on university resources or reputation
ERC Review Process & Timeline
Applications undergo a structured review process. The total duration is approximately 45 days.
Stage 1
Administrative ReviewCheck documents and formatting.
Stage 2
Ethical ReviewEvaluate consent, risk, and compliance.
Stage 3
RevisionsApplicants revise based on feedback.
Stage 4
Final DecisionApproval or conditional approval issued.
Important:
Applications must be submitted before research begins. Retrospective approval is not allowed.
