07 December 2019: A workshop on Curriculum enrichment and Mapping with SLQF Guidelines

A workshop on “Curriculum enrichment and Mapping with SLQF Guidelines” was organized by the Faculty Quality Assurance Cell of the Faculty of Applied Sciences for the academic and academic support staff on 17th December 2019, at the Faculty premises. The main objectives of the workshop were to prepare for the ongoing curriculum revision and SER preparation of Pragramme Review. A common format/template to develop the program specification of each degree programme in line with the SLQF was also finalized at the end of the workshop

04 December 2019: A workshop on ‘New Trends in Library Automation Based on “Koha” System’

The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in collaboration with the Faculty Quality Assurance Cell (FQAC) of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences conducted a one-day workshop on " New Trends in Library Automation Based on “Koha” System” on 04th December 2019. The workshop was conducted at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. The aim of the workshop is to aware the staff of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences on new trends in library automation and to provide a practical approach to KOHA based library system of the library network of the University. Academic and Academic supportive staff from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences were among the participants of the workshop. Dr. P. K. C. M. Wijewickrema, Senior Assistant Librarian of the Main library, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka contributed as the resource person of the workshop. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Lalith Wickramanayake, Deputy Librarian, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

25 November 2019: A workshop on ‘Good Laboratory Practices’

The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in collaboration with the Faculty Quality Assurance Cell (FQAC) of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences conducted a one-day workshop on “Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)” on 25th November 2019. The workshop was conducted aiming (i) to provide GLP basics on general laboratory practices, (ii) to provide basics on lab safety management and (iii) to provide basics on welfare of animals use in scientific testing and research. Academic supportive staff, laboratory staff and the Livestock Specializing students of Year III Semester I and Year IV Semester I from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences participated to the workshop. Prof. DMA Gunaratne, Professor, Dr. HAD Ruwandeepika and Dr. RMAS Bandara, Senior Lecturers from the Department of Livestock Production, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences contributed as the resource persons of the workshop. The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Sarath Patabandi, Lecturer (Probationary) attached to the Department of Livestock Production, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

05 September 2019: A Workshop on Introduction to Quality Assurance and Accreditation

A Workshop on Introduction to Quality Assurance and Accreditation was conducted at the Faculty of Technology on 05 September 2019 at the faculty premises. The Faculty of Technology is a newly established faculty of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. The workshop was conducted aiming to broaden the knowledge of the staff on the quality assurance and accreditation process of Technology degree progarmmes. The resource persons of the workshop were Dr. T.A. Piyasiri/ UGC Coordinator for Technology degree programs and Dr. Ruvini K. Mutucumarana, Coordinator, FQC, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

01 August 2019: Awareness programme on Institutional Review site visit preparation

An awareness programme on Institutional Review site visit preparation for university community was conducted by the Internal Quality Assurance Center (IQAC) on 1st August 2019 with the aim of awaring the university community on review site visit. During the workshop an Introductory lecture on Institutional Review procedure was conducted by Prof. JMCK Jayawardana, Director IQAC SUSL. Prof Achini De Silva of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences has delivered a lecture on “Getting ready for Institutional review process”. Dr Sampath wahala of the Faculty of Management Studies has shared his experience on getting ready for the site visit. Officers from higher Management (VC, Deans, Heads of Departments, Registrar, Bursar and Librarian), Academic Staff, Executive Staff, Academic Support Staff and Technical Staff of the Sabaragamuwa University were among the participants of the workshop. Group discussions on the progress of activities of IR process was conducted at the afternoon session with SER writing team and team members assigned for each criteria.

July 2019: Workshop for the development of learning outcomes and curriculum mapping.

A workshop on “Development of learning outcomes and curriculum mapping” was conducted by the Faculty of Medicine Quality Assurance Cell. Professor Gominda Ponnamperume, Dept of Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo was participated as the resource person of the workshop. The Faculty of Medicine of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka is a recently established faculty and most of the staff members of the Faculty are new to the academic departments and have limited knowledge in medical curricula models. Thus, this workshop was aimed at building academic staff members capacity to develop the current traditional curriculum into a more integrated curriculum with better outcomes. The achieved out comes of the workshop were that Faculty members were able to gain knowledge on different models of medical undergraduate curricula and strategy for moving towards a more system based integrated curriculum by discussions with each other. The coordinators of the workshop were Dr N.D. Amal Wageesha and Prof Deepthi Samarage.

19 July 2019: Workshop on “Paper Setting, Moderation and Marking”

A workshop on Paper Setting, Moderation and Marking was conducted for academic staff of Faculty of Social Sciences and Languagesn was conducted on 19th July 2019 to enhance the quality of examination procedures. The resource person of the workshop was Dr. Chalinda Benaragama.

17 July 2019: Awareness Session on the SER writing process

An awareness programme on the SER writing process and Quality Assurance activities of the programmes was conducted for all staff members of the Faculty of Applied Sciences on 17th July 2019 at the Mini Auditorium of the Faculty of Applied Sciences. Dr. Sampth Wahala, Senior Lecturer, FMS, SUSL served as the resource person of the workshop.

17 July 2019: A workshop on ‘Learning Management System: An update into 2019’

The Faculty Quality Assurance Cell (FQAC) of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences organized a workshop on ‘Learning Management System: An update into 2019’ on 17th July 2019 for the academic staff members of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. This workshop was held at the Computer Centre, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. Dr. Salinda Premadasa, Senior Lecturer, Centre for Computer Science contributed as the resource person. The key objective of the workshop was to conduct a discussion on updating the LMS to 2019 and (ii) to discuss the issues arise when using LMS. Around 25 Academic staff members of the Faculty participated to this workshop and the workshop was coordinated by Miss. Ruwini Basnayake, Lecturer (Probationary), Department of Agribusiness Management, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

05 July 2019: One day Workshop on Examination process.

A workshop to optimize the Examination procedure in line with Process Mapping standardization was conducted for academic staff of Faculty of Management Studies on 05th July 2019. The objective of the workshop was to Discuss and Optimize the Examination procedure in line with Process Mapping standardization. The resource person of the workshop was Dr. Chalinda Beneragama. Drafted Examination procedure was put into open discussion to identify the possible loopholes and team identified critical and non-critical activities for the optimization of the process. Clear understanding on the process of paper setting, moderation, terminology usage, styles and the types of questions should be prepared were discussed using practical examples and class room activities. Further open discussion was carried out to discuss about the common issues lecturers face during paper setting and moderating where the resource person facilitated each question with his experience.

18 March 2019: An awareness programme on PR Faculty of Agricultural Sciences

An awareness programme was held on 18th March 2019, at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to make aware the administrative staff, non-academic staff and students on Programme Review (PR) and Self Evaluation Report (SER) writing process of the Faculty. Mr. VD Kithsiri (Registrar), Mr. KARS Jayakody (Bursar), Mr. Kamal Gunawardhana (Deputy Registrar- Establishment). Mr. Awantha Wijerathne (Assistant Registrar/Examination), Mrs. HKIP Abeysinghe (Assistant Registrar-CODL) and Ms. Nadeesha Meddage (Assistant Registrar/Faculty of Agricultural Sciences) participated to the programme representing the University administrative staff. Non-academic staff members and student representatives were also participated to the programme. Dr. Sumith Magamage, Dean-Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Dr. HSR Rosairo, Senior Lecturer, Department of Agribusiness Management, Dr. RK Mutucumarana, Coordinator-FQAC, Mr. Sudantha Senadeera (Senior Instructor-English), Ms. Ruwini Basnayaka, Secretary-PR Committee participated to the programme representing the PR committee. The feedback from the stakeholders on the degree programme were also brought into discussion at the programme.

05 March 2019: An awareness programme for Industry Stakeholders on PR

An awareness programme was held on 5th March 2019, at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to make aware the industry expertise on Programme Review (PR) and Self Evaluation Report (SER) writing process of the Faculty. A total of six (06) industry stakeholders representing New Aquaculture Development Centre-Udawalawa, Chello Dairy Products (Pvt) Ltd. Godakawela, Sabaragamuwa Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Ratnapura, Amazon Trading (Pvt) Ltd. Colombo, In-service Training Institute-Balangoda and Department of Agriculture, Sabaragamuwa Province participated to this programme. Dr. MMP Sumith, Dean-Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Dr. PMAS Karunaratne, Director-IQAC, Prof. DAM De Silva, Chair-FQAC, Dr. HSR Rosairo, SER writing group-PR Committee, Dr. RK Mutucumarana, Coordinator-FQAC, Ms. Ruwini Basnayaka, Secretary-PR Committee participated for the programme. The feedback from the industry expertise on the degree programme and the graduates of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences was also brought into discussion at the programme.

08 and 09 January 2019: A Follow up actions of SER Faculty of Management Studies

A follow-up workshop on “Formulation of roadmap to improve Quality Management System in the Faculty of Management Studies” was conducted on 08th and 09th January 2019 at the National Holiday Resort, Bandarawela . The Main objective of the workshop was to review the existing best practices and the areas to be improved in line with the comments received by the review teams of Program Review of FMS and to formulate a road map to improve the Quality Management System in the faculty to obtain the ISO 9001:2015 International Quality Management System. The specific objectives of the workshop were i) Working towards getting ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System Certification Process -2019 ii) Process mapping and innovation analysis to optimize the process architecture of FMS iii) Process Mapping: To map the important processes of FMS to be standardized iv) Process Innovation Analysis: To identify the areas to be developed to optimize the process efficiencies. The main outcome of the workshop was the development of an action plan to address the comments of the reviewers of Program Review of FMS in 2018. Groups were discussed under the eight criteria of program review and identified the actions that can be implemented to improve the existing best practices of the faculty. Further discussions were made on plan for obtaining the ISO 9001:2015 International Quality Management System certifications.

06 February 2019: An Awareness programe for university community on Institutional Review

An awareness programme for university community on Institutional Review and SER writing was conducted by the IQAC at the Staff Development Centre (SDC) Auditorium on 6th February 2019. Group work on SER writing and group presentations on criteria was conducted at the meetings.
