Quality assurance is an important aspect in ensuring the acceptable standards of education which comprises with planned and systematic review process of the institution or the educational programme. Higher educational institutes should pay their prime attention in maintaining and enhancing the quality aspects in the institutes and the programmes being conducted as a continuous or as an ongoing process. Quality assurance comprised in two basic components i.e, internal quality assurance and external quality assurance.
Internal quality assurance is an internal processes which should be developed by the higher education institute in monitoring and improving the quality of learning experience, in achieving the goals, objectives and standards. More importantly achieving the graduate profile is utmost by maintaining the internal quality aspects in all the activities.

External Quality Assurance is an external process done by external parties in reviewing the learning experience offered by the institution or the study programme and achievement of established goals, objectives and standards. This external process is a periodic event conducted usually at periodic intervals. Mainly these reviews can be taken in to two major groups as Institutional review (IR) and Programme Review (PR).
Institutional Review (IR) focuses on the powers and responsibilities which universities hold for quality and standards. IR is concerned with university-wide processes, which support sound quality management and university planning to maintain an appropriate environment for teaching, learning, research and other activities.

Programme Review evaluates the effectiveness of Faculty’s or Institute’s processes for managing and assuring quality of study programmes, student learning experience and standards of awards within a programme of study. It is about management and assurance of quality at programme level. Undergraduate programmes, post graduate programmes and external degree programmes coming under the Open and Distance Learning Centers also be evaluated.
