Best Television Documentary Programme (25th Sumathi Awards 2021) and Special Jury Award (26th National Television Award Ceremony 2021)

The documentary television series of eight episodes on the Horton Plain National Park, titled "Asirimath Horton Thenna", Directed by Mr Poojitha Disaanayake for Sri Lanka Rupavahini, which was written, shot and edited with inputs from Dr M. Sandun J. Perera and Dr R. G. Udeni Jayalal of the Department of Natural Resources as key technical resource personnel, was awarded a Special Jury Award at the 26th National Television Award Ceremony 2021 held on 9th September 2021. Earlier this year, the same programme was awarded the Best Television Documentary Programme at the 25th Sumathi Awards 2021 held on 26th March 2021.

 

This can be recognised as one of the most complete scientific documentaries on the Sri Lankan wildlife reaching the general audience with the intention of promoting their appreciation for the unparalleled biodiversity resource our motherland harbours, being one of the 36 Global Biodiversity Hotspots in the world. Even within the island, Horton Plain National Park can be identified as one of the most unique ecosystems comprising three of the most threatened habitats that harbour tremendous endemism of both plants and animals.
