Workshop on Basic Lathe Machine Operations

The Faculty-Industry collaboration unit of the Faculty of Technology has conducted an awareness workshop for familiarization on basic lathe machine operations which are covered under the Engineering Technology degree curriculum. 

 

The target group of this workshop was the academic staff, technical officers, and laboratory staff of the Faculty of Technology and the technical officers from the other faculties.

 

The workshop was held on 10th to 12th February 2023 from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm, at the Mechanical Engineering Workshop, Faculty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

 

Name of the Resource Person: Mr K.C.K. Deraniyagala, Technical Officer, Open University of Sri Lanka.

 

OBJECTIVE OF THE WORKSHOP

 

An awareness of basic lathe machine-related operations such as metal cutting, facing, drilling, tapering, threading, etc.

 

EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THE ACTIVITIES

 

            Enhance the awareness of lathe machine control, operations, and safety precautions.

Introductory session of the Japanese language proficiency course

 

Introductory session of the Japanese language proficiency course for the undergraduates of the Faculty of Technology was held successfully on  30th November 2022 at the main auditorium of SUSL. Resource person of the course, Ms P. D. M Muthumali, Senior Lecturer in Japanese Language, Prof. K.R. Koswattage, the Dean Faculty of Technology, Academic staff members of the faculty and Undergraduates attended the occasion. Undergraduates can achieve Japanese language proficiency level 5 with this course and within 80 Hr Course period. The ceremony was organized by Faculty Industry Collaboration Unit, Faculty Career Guidance Cell with Faculty Quality Assurance cell.

Awareness Session for Accreditation Process

 

An awareness session on the Accreditation Process of Degree Programs Offered by the Technology Faculties, organized by the Faculty Quality Assurance Cell was conducted by Dr. T.A Piyasiri , on May 18, 2022.

Target Group: Academic Staff Members Faculty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

  • Reviewing the status of the accreditation process  of degree programs offered by Faculty of Technology Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.  
  • Discussing updated concepts in the accreditation process of degree programs offered by Technology Faculties.

Workshop on creating gender awareness

The Gender Equity and Equality Cell in conjunction with the quality assurance cell of the Faculty of Technology has organized a one-day training workshop on creating gender awareness with the objective of fulfilling the Gender Action Plan of STHRD project. The target group of this workshop is academic/non-academic staff of the Faculty of Technology and limited number of academic staff from other faculties. The workshop was conducted by the following Social Development and Gender
Specialists:

1. Ms. Nadiya Najab
Nadhiya has worked in the development field for over 10 years with experience in conducting research and evaluations. These projects have looked at post-war resettlement experiences and assistance programmes, access to services, labour migration, and livelihood opportunities for marginalized and vulnerable groups with a strong gender focus. I am experienced in conducting monitoring and evaluation activities using the MEAL framework, as well as developing policy recommendations which are evidence-based and unbiased. At present, Nadhiya is employed at the Centre for Poverty Analysis (CEPA). 



2. Mrs. Ranmini Vithanagama
Ms. Ranmini Vithanagama is a full-time gender and social inclusion consultant to the SLRM of Sri Lanka. She is also a senior researcher at the International Centre for Ethnic Studies (ICES), Sri Lanka. Her ressearch interests span women’s labour force participation and other topics related to women's economic empowerment and issues of social exclusion and vulnerability including disability and internal displacement. She has also conducted research related to topics on religious coexistence and social inclusion in Sri Lanka. She is also a freelance financial analyst with a special interest in the banking and telecommunication sectors. 


The workshop was funded by the STHRD project and the workshop was held at the Staff Development Center on 5th May 2022, from 9.00 am onwards.

The Sri Lanka Office of the University of Tokyo has organized a networking and information sharing session on the Study inJapan Global Network project of the MEXT, Japan in collaboration with the Qualiy Assurance cell of Faculty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

Webinar: Soft Skill Development

A webinar has been conducted for Year III students of the Faculty of Technology on "Soft Skill Development" to raise their awareness on communication skills, presentation skills and professional grooming, prior to their industrial exposure.

This webinar was organized by the Department of Biosystems Technology in conjunction with the Faculty Quality Assurance Cell on January 19,2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. via Zoom.

A path to become a HAPPY Managerial Scientist

The quality assurance cell of the Faculty of Technology in collaboration with the Carrier Guidance Unit of Sabaragamuwa University has organized a webinar of Prof. Sadun Perera in the University of Nevada, USA. 
 
Prof Sadun Perera was recognized as the most credentialed Sri Lankan in 2018 holding a total of seven academic degrees (including two PhDs and four master’s degrees and BSc).
 
The webinar is organized especially for the students in the Faculty of Management Studies, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages.

Prof Sandun Perea:
 
“Sandun Perera is an Assistant Professor of Business Analytics and Operations at the College of Business at the University of Nevada, Reno. He received his Ph.D. in Operations Management as well as an MBA and an M.S. in Supply Chain Management from the Jindal School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas. He also holds a Ph.D. in Financial Mathematics, and Master of Science degrees in Statistics and Applied Mathematics, and in Mathematics from Florida Atlantic University. He earned his B.S. in Finance, Business, and Computational Mathematics with first-class honors from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. With a total of seven academic degrees (including two PhDs and four master’s degrees), Sandun was recognized as the most credentialed Sri Lankan in 2018.
 
Dr. Perera has more than 16 years of teaching experience that spans over six different universities in three different countries. He has received several Golden Apple Awards for teaching excellence from the SOM at Michigan. He currently teaches courses on Global Supply Chain and Distribution Channel Management, Pricing, Revenue, and Predictive Analytics. He is also an active member of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), and Decision Sciences Institute (DSI).”
