Department of Tourism Management has organized a zoom discussion on 26th January 2021 under the
theme of "The First Art in the History of Sri Lankan Universities". The main objective of the webinar
was to make the university community aware of and sensitive to society through art. Dominic
Chandrasali is the most famous and talented graffiti artist in Sri Lanka who magically creates miracle
fantasies in walls by use of a spray gun. This Graffiti is painted on a wall in the faculty of management
studies of the university by illustrating animation characters in the movie, the BFG, which is directed by
the world-famous director, Steven Spielberg. This graffiti has been interpreted from different angles
and views as did by many. Professor Hiniduma Sunil Senavi interpreted this as the need for friendly
giants in the university system that can treat Sophies in a kind, warm and lovely way in concerning
them as the last in the world. Some have argued that this would be Dominic's view to remove the
political barrier from the university system to relieve it by eliminating red-coloured dreams. However, as
a faculty where critique is welcome, all interpretations are valued as received. Moreover, this entire
university system should be a place for multiple ideologies as academia is universally open. Faculty of
Management Studies as a family will continue to be the place of dream maker and a dream realizer to
its customer, the undergraduates providing them not only the theory but also making them sensitive to
the society by art. The BFG, the graffiti of Dominic Chandrasali, will be written in the golden letters in
the history of universities in Sri Lanka as the first ever from the kind as of 17th January 2021 under the
signature of the artist.
