Dr. Madhubhashini Ratnayake

Kala Keerthi Dr. Madhubhashini Ratnayake is a Sri Lankan academic and author. Her novel There is Something I Have to Tell You won the Gratiaen Prize in 2011 and she won the State Literary Award for the best collection of short stories in English in 1991 for Driftwood. She is also the founder editor of the ‘100 Word’ creative writing page of the Sunday Times and the creator and writer of the weekly Language Corner page of the Funday Times.

Dr. Ratnayake obtained her first degree from the University of Allahabad, India and later won a Fulbright scholarship to study for her Masters in American and English Literature, with a focus on creative writing, at the New York University.

She was the Head of English Language Teaching Unit at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura from 2011 – 2014 and currently serves as a senior lecturer at the same department.

She is also known as a Violinist; having passed Royal School of Music examinations, as well as a Sitarist holding the title of Visharada from the Bathkande School of Music, Lucknow.
