• Accuracy and integrity

  • Take responsibility for the accuracy of your work, verify data before reporting it, and cite original sources wherever possible.
  • Never fabricate, falsify or manipulate data, figures or images.
  • Do not let deadlines or publication format compromise accuracy.

• Honest reporting

  • Present findings in context, without overstating, oversimplifying or misrepresenting results, including in titles and abstracts.
  • Clearly separate research findings from opinion, advocacy or policy commentary.
  • Tell the editor promptly about any significant error and cooperate with corrections or retractions.

• Respect for participants

  • Obtain informed consent and honour any commitments made to participants, including confidentiality.
  • Protect participants’ identities where anonymity has been promised.
  • Avoid covert or deceptive data collection unless it is essential and approved by an ethics committee.

• Fairness and openness

  • Never plagiarise. Attribute all ideas, text and data taken from others.
  • Acknowledge data sources, funding and all contributions to the work.
  • Share data and materials for verification when appropriate, and engage respectfully with differing views.
  • Avoid stereotyping, and reflect on how your own values may shape your research.

Reviewers help maintain the quality of the journal and should:

• Keep manuscripts confidential and do not use unpublished material for your own work.
• Give objective, constructive feedback, supported by clear reasons.
• Declare any conflict of interest and decline reviews you cannot assess fairly.
• Complete reviews on time, or tell the editor early if you cannot.
• Alert the editor to suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication or data problems.

The editorial board is accountable for everything the journal publishes and should:

• Judge manuscripts on academic merit alone, regardless of the authors’ background or institution.
• Keep submissions and reviewer identities confidential throughout the double-blind process.
• Declare conflicts of interest and hand over manuscripts where needed.
• Investigate ethical concerns fairly and publish corrections or retractions when required.
