Copyright is concerned with protecting the work of the human intellect. It is the protection of a variety of original literary and artistic works including writings, music and works of the fine arts such as paintings and sculptures and technology-based works such as computer programs and electronic databases. It only protects the expression of an idea; it does not protect the underlying idea or concept. Unlike trademarks, design rights and patents, creators are not required to register in order to obtain copyright, and no formal copyright notice is required to claim protection.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Copyright law gives the author or creator of the work a range of exclusive rights over his or her work for a period of time defined in national laws. In most countries (under the Berne Convention) copyright extends for the life of the author plus 50 years; in some countries, including the United States of America and Europe, it lasts longer.<\/p>\n
