The ceremonial opening of the C60 Bucky ball structure

The ceremonial opening of the structure was conducted by Dean Prof. Kaveenga Koswattage, in the presence of Ms. Ishara Katuwendeniya and staff members of the Faculty. During the ceremony, Prof. Koswattage emphasized the significance of the C60 structure and extended best wishes for the very first batch of students who have constructed the structure under the project management module taught by Ms. Ishara.

Platinum certification for the new building complex

The new building complex for the Faculty of Technology at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka has been honored with the prestigious "Platinum" certification, marking a significant milestone as the first government university in Sri Lanka to achieve such recognition. The esteemed award was graciously received by Prof. Kaveenga R. Koswattage, the Dean of the Faculty of Technology, on behalf of the university. During the award ceremony, Prof. Koswattage was accompanied by Mr. Mahinda, an engineer from the PMU unit of the STHRD project. The stage was also shared with the dedicated team involved in the construction process, including Mr. Gayal and Mr. Nishantha from ICC, as well as the project management consultant team led by Mr. Ravi Nishantha.
This accomplishment stands as a remarkable achievement, underscoring the meticulous planning and dedication invested in the Faculty building from its inception to attain such a high standard of green certification. It is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the entire staff at Sabaragamuwa University, the STHRD project team, ICC, and RDC.
This recognition not only symbolizes the success of the Faculty of Technology but also reflects a commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.

Fruitful discussions with RMIT, Melbourne, and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to establish research collaborations with the Faculty of Technology

The Center for Nanodevice Fabrication & Characterization at the Faculty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, recently engaged in fruitful discussions with RMIT, Melbourne, and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to establish research collaborations with the Faculty of Technology. Prof. K.R. Koswattage, serving as the principal investigator at CNFC, and Senior Prof. Chandana Udawatta, a CNFC member, actively participated in all meetings. Additionally, they conducted research work at QUT, focusing on hydrothermal coating on metal substrates.
Mr. Buddika, a former lecturer in the Faculty of Technology and currently a doctoral researcher at QUT, collaborated with CNFC members on the research conducted at QUT. These discussions hold the potential to pave the way for Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), creating opportunities for young lecturers to pursue postgraduate studies, and fostering research fellowships for students at the Faculty of Technology.

Industrial Collaboration with CodeGen International (Pvt) Ltd

The Faculty of Technology has successfully established a collaborative partnership with CodeGen International (Pvt) Ltd by signing a Non-disclosure Agreement (NDA). This collaboration is set to focus on Battery research and development, particularly within the scope of CodeGen's Vega Innovations.
The research endeavors within the Center for Nanodevice Fabrication & Characterization (CNFC) at the Faculty of Technology, involving both our faculty members and dedicated students, will be at the forefront of this developmental work.
During the preliminary discussions and signing ceremony, Professor K.R Koswattage, Dean, Faculty of Technology with  Mr. Kaveendra Maduwatha, Mr. Amaka Indupama, and Mr. Chanaka Galpaya represented FOT in a visit to CodeGen. They handed over the signed agreement, bearing the endorsement of our Vice Chancellor, Senior Professor Udaya Ratnayaka.
CodeGen was equally represented by Dr. Prasanga Mantilaka, Director of Scientific Research and Innovations, along with his team.

Foundation stone laying ceremony for the New Accommodation Complex for Foreign Scholars

The foundation stone laying ceremony for the New Accommodation Complex for Foreign Scholars within the premises of the Faculty of Technology's new building was held on October 5th, 2023. This event was graced by the presence of Senior Professor Udaya Ratnayaka, the Vice Chancellor, and Professor Kaveenga R Koswattage, the Dean of the Faculty of Technology, along with academic and non-academic members of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.
The construction of this accommodation facility for foreign scholars is to be funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This funding was granted in response to a request submitted by the Faculty, highlighting the MOU with Meiji University, Japan.
The accommodation facility, to be designed and constructed by ICC, will comprise four well-appointed rooms, a dining area, a spacious living area, and an inviting open veranda, among other amenities.

Orientation 2023

The inaugural session of the orientation program organized for the batch of 2021/2022 was concluded successfully on 21st of August 2023 in Online mode. The Vice Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty of Technology, two Heads of the Departments, Registrar, academic staff, supportive academic staff and non-academic staff have participated in this event to make it a success. The orientation program was conducted for three weeks and more than 20 sessions were conducted in it. chers from the other. Further, both institutions agree and will implement the exchange of undergraduate and/or graduate students.

Signing of MOU between Meiji University, Japan, and SUSL

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Meiji University, Japan, and Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka was held on 24th March 2023.
 
The objective of the MOU is to strengthen mutual cooperation as well as strive for the promotion of mutual exchanges, Faculty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka and School of Science and Technology, Meiji University, Kanagawa, Japan. Through the MOU, both institutions will endeavor to facilitate visits by faculty members and researchers from the other. Further, both institutions agree and will implement the exchange of undergraduate and/or graduate students.

Openning Cereminy of Phase 1 of the New Faculty Complex

Phase 1 of the New Faculty Complex, Faculty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka declared open on Thursday 26th January 2023 upon the invitation of Prof. K. R. Koswattage the Dean, Faculty of Technology by the Vice chancellor Senior Professor Udaya Rathnayake and Country Director ADB Sri Lanka Resident Mission Mr. Chen Chen at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

Orientation 2022

The orientation programme organised for the batch of 2020/2021 was concluded successfully. The event continued for three weeks with more than 20 invited sessions, 30 hour Extensive English Course and 20 hour Fundamental Engineering Mathematics Course. We would like to give our sincere gratitude for vice chancellor, all the resource persons, dean of the Faculty of Technology, two head of the departments, academic staff, supportive academic staff and non academic staff for the help they
provided to make this a success.

Industrial Visit to Senaka Zenn (Pvt) Ltd

An industrial meeting has taken place at Senaka Zenn (Pvt) Ltd , Balangoda between Mr.Senaka Gurusinghe, the group chairman of Senaka Group and Faulty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. The main objective of the meeting was to discuss on providing technical support for waste managment of pre-stressed spun concrete pole manufacturing process.

Welcome Program - 2019/2020

The Welcome program (Physically to the Faculty premises) for the Undergraduates of 2019/2020 batch was held on 09th of May 2022 at the Faculty Auditorium.

The undergraduates were studying for almost a semester virtually and this was the first time they visited the faculty premises. The occasion was graced by the Academic, Non-Academic staff of the Faculty of Technology and the Public Health Inspector of the university.

Ceremony of Foundation Laying Stone - Sewage Treatment Plant

The Foundation stone laying ceremony of the Sewerage Treatment Plant was concluded successfully with the participation of UGC Vice Chairman Senior Professor Chandana P. Udawatte, Vice-Chancellor  Senior Professor R.M.U.S.K. Rathnayake, Project Director STHRD project Prof. Sujeewa Lewangamage, Dean/Faculty of Technology Prof. K.R. Koswattage, Deans, Registrar,  Academic and Non-academic staff members of the University.

Under the Science and Technology Human Resource Development Project funded by Asian Development Bank, the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka is provided with a Sewerage Treatment Plant of a capacity of 1000 cubic meters per day. This is a long felt need and an essential development for the university which caters to thousands of students.

International Construction Consortium (PVT) Ltd in Collaboration with Aqua Equipment Technologies LLC in USA design and build Fixed Bed Biofilm Reactor (FBBR) sewage treatment systems using the AET patented fixed film bio media and high efficiency tube settler units manufactured in Germany. FBBRs are a good and advantageous alternative to activated sludge processes. The project cost is more than 180 million LKR.

Industrial Meeting with Lanka Tiles, PLC

An industrial meeting has taken place at Lanka Tiles PLC, Ranala to discuss the feasibility of implementing collaborative projects related to floor tiles between Lanka Tiles PLC and the Faulty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

AIT collaboration with Faculty of Technology, SUSL

The Science and Technology Human Resource Development Project (STHRDP), a joint initiative between the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka, and Asian Development Bank (ADB) are collaborating with Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) with the focus on developing an educated and knowledgeable workforce for accelerated economic growth.

As the initiative step of the collaboration, AIT is proposing a program consisting of 10 Customized Instructor-Led Technical Education (CILTE) courses focusing on areas such as ICT, Biosystems, Agricultural Engineering, Tech Transfer, Data Science, Smart Agriculture, Incubator Facility, Mechatronics, Construction Process, Civil, and Nanotechnology for Faculty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri lanka. For one-on-one discussions, AIT has visited Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka on 08th April 2022. A successful discussion had between academic staff and the team of AIT in order to execute the future program.

Faculty Orientation 2021

Faculty of Technology Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka has recruited their third student intake recently while welcoming them via Online Platform. This 2019/2020 batch consists of 250 students dispersing 125 students for each department. The Inauguration opening ceremony was conducted via ZOOM on 23rd August 2021. The Vice chancellor Prof. Udaya Rathnayake enlighten the occasion as the chief guest and all the academic and non academic staff of the faculty were participated for the occasion.

Ceremony for Laying the foundation stone – New Faculty Complex

The ceremony for Laying the foundation stone of the New Faculty Complex of Faculty of Technology was held on 27th January 2021 from 9.45am onwards to 1.25pm with the honorary participation of Secretary of  Ministry of Education, Senior Professor Kapila Perera as the Chief Guest of the occasion and Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Senior Professor Sampath Amarathunga as the Guest of Honour of the occasion. Prof. R.M.U.S.K. Rathnayake (Vice Chancellor), Prof. M. Sunil Shantha(Former Vice Chancellor), Dr. A.D. Ampitiyawatta(Dean), Deans of all Faculties of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, STHRD Project Management Unit Members, Asian Development Bank members, All deans of Kelaniya, Rajarata and Sri Jayewardenepura, All Directors and Admin Officers, Council Members, ICC ( International Construction Consortium (Pvt) Ltd) members and all the staff members of Faculty of Technology were participated at the occasion.

Ceremony of Cutting the first earth sod – New Faculty Complex

Ceremony of Cutting the first earth sod for the construction of New Faculty Complex of the Faculty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka was held on 20th January 2021 10.00am onwards at the construction site near Faculty of Applied Sciences. Prof. R.M.U.S.K. Rathnayake(Vice Chancellor) ,  Dr. A.D. Ampitiyawatta(Dean) and the Faculty members of the Faculty of Technology followed by other members at SUSL were participated at the occasion.

Faculty Orientation 2020

Faculty of Technology Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka has recruited their second student intake recently. This 2018/2019 batch consists with 150 students dispersing 75 students for each department. The Inauguration opening ceremony was conducted at the main auditorium at the faculty in 8th September 2020. The acting vice chancellor Dr. W. Manoj Ariyarathna enlighten the occasion as the chief guest and all the academic and non academic staff of the faculty were participated for the occasion. Following the open day ceremony, the batch completed a three day faculty Orientation program very successfully. This program included a mentoring session conducted Dr. W.M.J Welgama as the director of Sith Arana counseling Unit, an informative session conducted by Mr. D. Jasingha as the Senior student councilor of the University and an out bounding session conducted Mr. P Weerakkodi of Faculty of Applied Sciences.

Openning Ceremony of the Chemistry Laboratory and Biology Laboratory of Faculty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, was held on 13th January 2020  at the Faculty of Technology premises, SUSL.

The Faculty of Technology, SUSL is being built under the STHRD Project which is funded by ADB. On 13th February 2019, the agreement was signed by the Vice Chancellor of SUSL, Prof. Sunil Shantha at the ADB country office.

Faculty Orientation Program 2019

The Faculty Orientation Program-2019 was conducted with the contributions of academic staff of FT and invited guests as resource personal. The topics covered during this program included updates on state-of-the-art scientific and technological advancements which were of high relevance to BET and BBST curricular, and academic skills important for starting undergraduates. Moreover, during each session, special attention had been paid to encourage students’ participation in the teaching-learning process.
