    Consultancies

    • National Prevalence Survey on Non-Communicable risk factors conducted by the World Bank/ Ministry of Health - This above project conducted in determining the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors among the Sri Lankan population. About 10,000 persons were surveyed and the project completed. Involved from the inception in planning, training staff in survey methods, questionnaire preparation, and advice of equipment purchase, analysis and monitoring of project.

    Research Grants/Research Awards

  • Grants

    • With Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford through a grant by the Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland under the program “Links with developing countries”. Under this grant, a study on rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease was established with a view to characterize the genetic predisposition to rheumatic fever.
    • Grant from the Welcome Trust Centre for Genetic Studies was obtained for establishing a hypertension register in preparation for genetic analysis.
    • Grant from the IDRC / Ministry of Health on a Health Service Research projects for the project “Establishment of a register of rheumatic fever/rheumatic heart disease patients among clinic attendees, General Hospital, Galle”.
    • Grant from School of Medicine, University of Durham on “Social Deprivation, markers of CV risk factors in young people in deprived communities”
    • World Bank Competitive Block Grant to University of Ruhuna for Improvement of Relevance in Quality Undergraduate Education (approximately US dollars 1 million) – Lead and Deputy Director of Project - for IRQUE - 2004
