On May 3rd, 2023, Professor S. Vasanthapriyan assumed the esteemed position of the founding Dean of the Faculty of Computing at the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. With an impressive academic journey, he was born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, and earned his BSc(Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Peradeniya in 2004, where he was honored with the Ashoka Amunugama Memorial award for his exceptional performance.

Continuing his pursuit of knowledge, he obtained his Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology in The Netherlands in 2010. In 2017, his academic endeavors led him to achieve a Doctor of Engineering Degree in Computer Science from the Wuhan University of Technology in PR China. Throughout his educational journey, he received prestigious international accolades, including the Nuffic Fellowship Awards in 2007 and the Chinese Government Scholarship in 2014.

With a wealth of experience spanning more than nineteen years, Professor Vasanthapriyan has served as an academic lecturer at the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka since September 2005. His contributions are substantial; he was appointed as the founder Head of the Department of Computing and Information Systems from 2011 to 2014. He played a pivotal role in designing and implementing the department's ACM/IEEE-based curriculum during his tenure. In 2021, he took the lead in establishing the BSc Hons program in Software Engineering, welcoming an inaugural batch of 58 students.

In his role as a Professor of Computer Science since October 2019, Professor Vasanthapriyan has demonstrated remarkable achievements in the academic sphere. He took on the Head of the Department of Computing & Information Systems position from May 2020 to October 2022. Subsequently, he assumed the role of Coordinator of the Faculty of Computing, the 9th Faculty of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka in November 2022. Notably, from January 2nd, 2023, to April 31st, 2023, Professor Vasanthapriyan served as the Head of the Data Science Department and the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Computing, underscoring his unwavering dedication and exceptional leadership in the fields of computer science and education.

As an ICT Educator leader, Professor S. Vasanthapriyan, driven by an unwavering commitment to education, has pioneered transformative ICT initiatives within society. He has actively staged his leadership with numerous professional bodies, including the IEEE, IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter, and E3-Computer Science at the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science. Furthermore, his distinguished status as a Senior Member of IEEE underscores his substantial contributions to the international community of computer scientists.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was bestowed with the prestigious title of "ICT Educator of the Year 2022" by His Excellency President Ranil Wickramasinghe in October 2023. This esteemed award, presented by the Computer Society Sri Lanka, acknowledges his remarkable national efforts in imparting knowledge and fostering the development of information and communications technology (ICT) education in Sri Lanka.

In January 2024, he was nominated and duly elected as the Chair-Elect/Vice President of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section, a prestigious role within a globally renowned technical forum boasting over 450,000 members. He will be the Chair/ President of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section in 2025.
